Anybody ever buy a new car and have it shipped?

I’m communicating with a new car dealer in Texas and he’s telling me that if I don’t want to travel to the dealership , he could have the car shipped to me for $399. I’m thinking about by the time I travel to the dealership from NOLA, it might be better to have it shipped. Uber to MSY, plane flight cost, Uber to dealership, and gas expense back to NOLA. And the time factor of wasting a whole day, it might be worth it.

But I have reservations about buying a car sight unseen till it is delivered to my driveway. And also if the car arrives with any damage.

I had a vehicle I owned shipped from San Diego to NOLA when I was working there and it went off without a hitch. But I still have some reservations about buying a new car sight unseen.

Any advice, comments, or rebuttals welcome.

My dad’s buddy did this. It took forever to show up and when it did, it was a different color than what was advertised.

I bought a new car from an Atlanta dealership and had it shipped. An old couple drove it here. The shipping I think cost me about $500 but I saved a boatload on the purchase price. No problems at all.

My ex wife bought a car in Houston and drove it back. Between the cost of the flight, gas and the day not at work, it would have been cheaper to have them ship it.

yes, if it's a new car and it's just being shipped, what's the big deal? all new cars are shipped from somewhere

ETA: same thing with "test driving," whenever I buy a new truck the sales person always wants to go for a drive, I usually say I've been driving trucks since I was 13-14 years old, I don't need to do that, the wife, on the other hand, always has to drive before we get her a new one

I have purchased cars in Texas, Utah, and California always driven them back to La
I had a pre inspection performed by a neural third party before purchase.

How about you have the dealer ship it to another dealer near you? No sale until you see it.

When do you actually sign the paperwork for the car? Before or after delivery?

OK. I read wrong and assumed it was a used car.

docusign, or something similar, or just go to a local dealer and do the paperwork through them

Purchased my current vehicle out of Dallas sight unseen. Got it the day after Christmas and it was exactly as described and expected. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

you can stipulate that the vehicle be shipped via rail or car carrier, probably costs extra, maybe not

I bought a truck from Alabama last summer and had it shipped. Seamless transaction signed the papers on a Friday and had the truck on Monday.
