There have been threads on here for years, but nothing recently.

In all, 63 people have been charged in the sweeping investigation — from slammers and spotters to attorneys accused of pursuing fraudulent lawsuits.

It's estimated, dubiously I believe, that this scam cost LA auto insurance taxpayers $600 per family. WWL Link

NEW ORLEANS — Nearly six years after former WWL Investigative reporter Mike Perlstein first exposed it, the massive federal fraud probe known as “Operation Sideswipe” is finally headed to trial. Jury selection begins Monday, with opening statements expected Tuesday, as two New Orleans attorneys accused of orchestrating staged 18-wheeler crashes — along with two men tied to the murder of a key federal witness , prepare to face a judge.

The scheme first drew suspicion in federal civil court when judges noticed a pattern: eight nearly identical lawsuits involving 18-wheelers were halted. Five of those cases were filed by Motta, who had just graduated from law school at the time — more than any veteran attorney in the region.

Prosecute to the fullest extent of the law to make an example of them all.

In his confession, Harris claimed Leon Parker pulled the trigger and that disbarred attorney Sean Alfortish, Motta’s fiancé, paid for the hit. Under federal law, killing a witness can carry the death penalty.

Death penalty. Doh!

F them all. Hope they get the maximum punishment and all involved lose whatever professional licenses they held.

I miss the days when reputable PI attorneys simply bribed judges for better verdicts. Some could be had for as little as a fancy bird gun.

Think about that every time you pay crazy auto insurance rates in LA.

Great use of resources. Six years to pinch a couple of plaintiff attorneys.

Not sure what the attorneys are supposed to do when their clients come in with a case, the doctors give medical causation, and the plaintiffs undergo treatment.

It’s hard to believe that a former sports agent and Kenner magistrate wouid end up facing murder and insurance fraud charges.

As an attorney you are obligated to make a reasonable inquiry into the facts.

If the same exact accident keeps coming to you over and over again you can't claim ignorance. You should be nailed to the cross.
