Yes, they are pretty common in Mississippi. The soils are different and the bedrock is deep, so I have never felt one….most people don’t even know they happen.

I was up in N. Ga. Talking on the phone and one hit. I told the person I was on the phone with, they didn’t believe me.

What does an earthquake sound like? Other than buildings rumbling, is the ground moving audible?

Dishes and things inside shaking. Otherwise you got bigger problems in your house.

A buddy of mine who is from Louisiana but went to school in California said he went through a weak/distant one that sounded like distant thunder.

My guess is that you hear the structures rattling unless you're right over a strong one.

How many does that make in SC in just the last 4 weeks or so? I think the others were closer to Charleston. Hope all of this action is keeping pressure off the Middleton/Summerville seismic zone.

We feel them sometimes, but this is the first I've actually heard one... it rumbled like a giant cargo plane.

Sounded/felt like a giant cargo plane taking off right near me, under me. Deep rumble that you hear and feel.

Others in the area heard booms, I did not.

Sprung off Lake Murray.

Good to hear. We don't need you getting hit in the head by something or falling into a crack in the ground..

This.

Living on the New Madrid fault I cannot tell you how many minor earthquakes I have experienced in my life. Usually they are over before you realize it.

The epicenter of the worst one I have ever seen was about two miles due north of me. A clap of thunder is exactly what the beginning of it sounded like.
