So are we ever going to do anything to stop AI stealing jobs and Data Center resource use?

Absolutely silent from both sides as we roll towards the greatest assault on the middle class in history. Amazing really. So much money in their pockets from these companies and not a peep about the single greatest issue facing us.

Most people don’t even know how big this will be, because the people in power have an incentive to not even point to it. It’ll be like a light switch flipped on in a couple years and that shite will hit the fan quickly.

Because horses don’t vote and aren’t citizens.

I think you answered your own question. None of them serve us. They serve their class.

1.) Why are you assuming the current state of things is that no one is doing anything about AI taking jobs? A quick Google search produces several state and federal bills regarding worker protections and Universal Basic Income.

2.) You're basically crying "Won't someone do something" without offering up a solution. It's kinda pathetic to see coming from an adult.

3.) Machines have always taken jobs. Every single time. Why do you think, ultimately, this will be any different?

There is a good possibility that we will see something worse than the great depression in the near future.

Epic deflation and mass unemployment of uppermiddle/lower upper classes. Which make up the majority of the gfp of the country. Select companies will become even more powerful and own the majority of assets.

No, and we shouldn't.

We need OpenAI, Meta, Google, Twitter and Anthropic as they provide the advantage over China more than anything else. We stop, and China wins.

I am glad to be at the other end of a career as a Developer, though. It is changing rapidly, and we need to adjust. I just hope it replaces Attorney's next. That will be a moral victory, if nothing else.

No. The economy will evolve with the new technology. This is like saying we need to do something about airplane manufacturers because putting the train conductors out of work.

This.

It's extremely short sighted to try and resist AI advancement. Yes its likely going to change society massively. But the alternative is almost assuredly worse.

AI is the future. We either embrace it or accept, within a few generations, that China will be the next world superpower.

Do you use any of the following?

Chat GPT
Claude
Grok
Gemini
Facebook
LinkedIn
Tigerdroppings
Instagram
Signal
iPhone apps
Android apps
ESPN
Netflix
Bla
Bla
Bla

Since you do.. then since you are against data centers then you need to delete and remove all of the apps I mentioned above or you are a fricking hypocrite

All of the apps mentioned above have to run off guess what? DATA CENTERS - shocker!

What if AI and robotics results in universal abundance and you dont have to work anymore?

Sure, but AGI combined with robotics could take everyone’s jobs. That’s his point.

It’s not happening anytime soon, but it’s something to consider.

Still a problem, I think.

It's hard to put into works, but I think an intrinsic part of human mental health is to have purpose and be productive.

The internet and social media have already caused significant harm to many people's mental health and relationships. I only see AI magnifying that.

Also, it's going to make people dumber. Children will grow up without developing their brains like they need too bevause they can just plug a prompt into AI to get an answer instead of trying to research and solve the problem thenselves.

Building these AI date centers are providing a lot of construction and other jobs. It's not really killing the middle class like the fear mongers would have you believe
