Looks like he got a well deserved promotion to 1st LT. Skipped being a butter bar altogether but that dude deserves it. Hard to fly a helicopter without your legs, much less a beast like the Chinook.

CW5 is a silver bar with a solid black bar in the middle. Are you sure you weren't seeing that and thought you saw just a silver bar?
