Was planning on Cancun due to ease of travel from MSY. 2nd thoughts now with the cartel problems... If we do go to cancun, any recs there to stay?

We did Austin and San Antonio a few years back and just got back from Charleston and Savannah (few days each). Enjoyed Savannah so much that we booked another trip next year. Any of these would be a good choice.
