The clean energy future is within reach, Antonio Guterres, the United Nations Secretary General, said after meeting with renewable energy representatives in India.

“I recently met with leaders from across India’s renewable energy ecosystem, listening to different perspectives from industry, finance, policy & civil society,” Guterres posted on X.

“The message was clear: The clean energy future is within reach – but we need a system-wide transformation to accelerate the transition from fossil fuels,” added the UN Secretary General, who has strongly advocated for years for renewable energy and for ditching fossil fuels.

In India specifically, coal demand could more than double by 2050 from current levels under current policies
, a new report by NITI Aayog, the policy think tank of the Indian government, showed earlier this month.

Under the Current Policy Scenario (CPS), coal demand in India is forecast to rise even through 2070, according to the projections.

Separately, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said in a recent report that global electricity demand is rising at the fastest pace in 15 years and will continue to do so at least until the end of the decade as AI infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, and electrification have ushered in The Age of Electricity.

As demand grows, developers of new capacity, especially renewables and natural gas, face constraints in connecting to the grids, the agency said.

Today, global investments in grids are about $400 billion per year. If the world is to meet the expected growth in power demand through 2030, it would need to boost annual grid investment by about 50% from $400 billion, according to the IEA.

We need more of everything or prices are going to keep climbing at increasing rates.

How much of that "fastest pace in 15 years" is due to huge companies needing it for AI shite?

It means more tax credits for renewable asset owners. If you look at it from the perspective of someone else paying less taxes means you pay more then yes.

AI has a lot to do with it, but I know O&G have been talking about India and China as emerging energy markets for a decade plus now.

Even if the US and Europe went full clean energy, India and China would and will still demand so much energy that O&G demand would still continue to grow.

Renewables are a piece of the puzzle for energy but not the lone source.

Efficiencies of energy use is another big piece.

20 years ago office buildings used typically 2w/sq ft now with LED you can get 0.5w/sq ft

HVAC is the largest energy use in a tropical facility. Typical 40-60% of a facilities energy consumption is towards HVAC.

Retro commissioning, VFDs on motors (variable air and variable fluid flow systems), un-occupied set backs, dual use systems like HPCHs and CHP systems can also greatly reduce our existing loads. Peak load shedding like thermal storage or battery storage.

Plus you have to use fossil fuels to make all the “renewable” stuff

The entire "renewable/green energy" push has been done to cripple "select" economies and re-distribute wealth.

I was just watching a YouTube video of a business in India that puts waste tires into a giant pressure cooker to hydrolyze them into liquid petroleum and carbon black. Whole thing is heated by burning wood, tires, waste oil. It's laughable if he thinks India, as a whole, truly gives a shite about clean energy when they turn vast swathes of their own country into industrial waste zones.

They put LED conversion tubes in the light fixtures in my office, I pulled them out and replaced them with high CRI florescent tubes. frick saving a few watts, I prefer less eye strain and headaches.
