Does anyone use these and if so what brand or size would you recommend for deer or hogs? I'm tired of pulling carts and sleds. I hunt WMAs in AL. We cannot use ATVs to retrieve. Thanks.

I have a ebrelstock and have used it to pack out several deer. It’s over 10-12yrs old and is still in great shape.

what brand

Exo, Kifaru, Stone Glacier, Kuiu, mystery ranch all make top shelf packs with a "meat shelf" that allows the pack to come away from the frame for cincing meat close and high to the frame.

I'm currently using a Mystery Ranch Pop Up 30 and really like it. I had a Mystery Ranch Pintler/Mule before but I had bought it used and the frame was too long for my back. The waist strap would cinch below my hips and wouldn't take any of the weight off of my shoulders. It was a damn good pack, though. I tried the Eberlestock X2 the year before last and it wasn't bad but not nearly as comfortable or lightweight as the Pop Up. If you like having a lot of pockets for organization the X2 is nice. If you're mainly worried about hauling meat I'd get something with an actual meat shelf.

Whole hog packout with the Mule pack. I would have had to quarter it up for the pop up or Eberlestock.

The meat shelfs let you keep the load closer to your back.

X2 can fit a deer but it ends up being stacked further away from you and is a little harder to haul. You can fit a quarter and a shoulder in the bag part and the other half of the deer has to get strapped to the back.

No issues carrying hogs and deer out with my Badlands 2200. Made in America and unconditional lifetime warrany. I QTR and cut the straps, loins, and necks off and they go into bags.

It is not a meat pack specifcally but does have a fold out orange sling for a head.

take a look at seek outside. I've got the divide 4800 as a "mainly for lightweight backpacking but can also handle hunting/meat hauling" pack. They have some other models that flip that balance and are designed for hunting first. Made in Colorado.

Go to an Army surplus store and get an ALICE back pack with frame.

Such as this but will be less than half the price.

And if you are ever lucky enough to go elk or moose hunting just tie the 1/4 to the frame itself.

I went on a desert mule deer hunt and fit a whole de boned buck in mine with caped head lashed to top.

Depends on what your needs/wants are and the terrain your in. Short pack outs and flat terrain or a longer hike and hills and such.

Those Mystery Ranch pop-ups are pretty slick. They have two sizes and “load-lifters” extend when you need to use a meat shelf. I’d think it fits your needs pretty well for deer sized game.

If you want something with the potential for western hunting pack outs the EXO MTN Gear stuff is awesome. I have the 4800 for pack-in type hunts. They have an 1800 size bag for day hunts. Super comfortable and lightweight for hauling around the mountains. They do a great job of taking the weight off of your back/ shoulders and transferring it into your hips.
