The weak spot in LSU’s batting lineup.

If anyone finds it, let me know. Our consensus first team all American Curiel has the lowest batting average, but everyone knows that will change. We lose for a few games one of the best SEC outfielders, Stanfield, and his replacement, Simpson, is only hitting .429. Reeves, the rant whipping boy who is not even starting now, is hitting .333. When Stanfield comes back, options at DH include Simpson, Braun, Pearson Rucker and Serna.
Yeah, yeah yeah, it’s early and the competition is inferior. But still, in most years LSU has had at least one or two starters who you felt like were almost automatic outs. There is just no let up for opposing pitchers in the LSU lineup this year, at least so far. And exit speeds do not lie, the ball is just popping off LSU bats.
The hardest part of Jay Johnson’s job has to be filling out his lineup up card and leaving players on the bench who have played well given the opportunity. From a batting standpoint, this is a super deep team. There is like no player that comes to bat that makes you cringe.

The best part is pitching under Jay always come around...and when they do, they're going to get the privilege of 13 dudes who can mash regardless of the order they are in

Watching the Tennessee game, they had a corner outfielder hitting .188 with 1 RBI down in the 8 spot.
Our 8 hole hitter today, also a corner outfielder, is hitting .429 with a 1.200+ OPS.
I know it's extremely early, but we just have so many options. Both on the mound and at the plate. It's a a symptom of (1) having bigger rosters; (2) A full roster of Jay Johnson players; and (3) Really only adding game ready guys (outside of about 3/4) out of the portal and recruiting class.
The key will be finding the most valuable 27 per weekend. Those 27 will likely change each weekend based on what that weekend calls for.

Need to figure out Friday night starter and Moore might be that guy. Evans is a talent but needs to prove he’s a starter.
There’s no Skenes or Anderson on this team (there won’t be a Skenes ever again) and maybe not an Eyanson, so the offense needs to be absolutely elite to reach our goals this year. The bullpen is deep and will be a weapon.

Don’t underestimate the value of a top shelf ace the caliber of Anderson. A Skenes is off the charts.

I’m not. We need to compensate for not having that this year.
Johnson has always had a top 5 pick as his Friday ace when he’s won National championships. He doesn’t this year, so the lineup needs to make up for it.

Definitely a lot of options. Gotta figure out roles on the pitching staff and who in the lineup will be able to consistently keep up their level of play over the next few weeks. SEC play is going to be very fun.

Putting standfield back in will weaken a little. He's not a consistent hitter we have better hitters that can play left field

Thats a fair take after the first seven games. Our hitters have greatly outperformed our pitchers and it’s natural to wonder if LSU is a team that will have to average 7 or 8 runs a game.
It’s early, though, and I would bet things tend to equalize more over time. It’s hard to see LSU staying this hot at the plate for the whole season. We have six hitters over .400 and 11 over .300. That will change a lot.
On the other hand, there is a ton of talent among the pitching staff. I think one reason our pitchers are struggling is the pressure of trying to find a spot in the rotation. The cream will rise to the top.
But no doubt, this might be a team that has to rely more on hitting than prior teams with Skenes, Anderson or Eyason. One strength of our pitching could be Guidry if he turns into an ace reliever. A true ace reliever can save a lot of close games.

It’s a very small sample size so far. Wasn’t Stanfield our leading hitter against SEC pitching last year? When you add in his speed and fielding ability, I think his starting spot is very secure. It’s a nice problem to have, Simpson probably has more pop in his bat.
I think once Stanfield is fully recovered, Simpson’s primary role will be DH.

I know we don’t have Skenes as no college team probably ever will again. But all the others we just don’t know yet. There are many on this team with the potential to be elite like Anderson and Eyanson. Gotta remember that Eyanson looked way worse than just about anybody on this staff so far in the pre conference and first few weeks of sec play last year before he turned it on. I’ve learned under Jay to just have patience because the pitching always come around by mid season to end of the year.

You seem to be super sharp at baseball the way you put so much stock on batting avg and in short sample sizes. I liked and subscribed.
