WAFB reported this occurred Friday in Baton Rouge. I haven’t heard details but curious how this happened.

1yr olds are barely walking steady... that's weird.

Is was reported that the 1y/o was in the back seat and managed to get out and get under the truck.
Presumably wasn’t in a child seat or checked on before pulling away.

That’s on whomever was in charge of said child…

A shitton of 'parents' drive around with their very young children unsecured. I recently saw a car with dad driving, a kid or two in the backseat, and mom up front holding a fresh infant.

Some communities don’t value things like seatbelts on child car seats

Which is ironic because they need them children alive for the payouts.

UWK

quote:

Nicholas Aguilar was a passenger in the back of a 2014 Dodge Ram and was not properly restrained, police say. Officers say the pickup truck was making a turn in the parking lot when the back passenger door opened. Aguilar fell out of the truck on the concrete and was run over by the truck’s rear passenger-side tire. The little boy was transported to Children’s Hospital in critical condition, but did not survive. At this time, because it appears to be a true accident, no one is facing any charges.

This is bullshite.

Child carseat laws are LAWS.

Had that kid been in a seat, he wouldn't have fallen out. Period.

Can't even imagine that kid's last moments... whoever was driving needs to pay.

And contrary to perception, they're about as equally likely to be a Latina in an $80k Volvo as they are in busted Altima.

A few weeks ago, I was Westbound on I-10 from Katy to Sealy, where the speed limit is 75, and it's 3 lanes. I passed an F-150 or a Silverado where this future darwin award winner of a mom had her 2-3 year old on her lap in the driver's seat, (obv unbelted) and had the kid's hands on the steering wheel. Doing close to 80.

The one I saw recently with the fresh baby in mom's lap in the front seat, they were middle eastern.

Maybe they don't have child safety laws in some of these other countries.

That's the way everyone was transported up through the 80s. Very few 55 and old ever rode in a car seat. It was the mid 80s before seat belts were widely used, some of the older cars back then still had lap belts.

They also didn't have infotainment systems and cellphones.

Life was 1000000000x better, if I could set the world back to 1985, everyone would be much happier. The 24 hours cycle, internet and social media are the three worst things that have happened since WW2.

You can choose not to pay attention to the news cycle, but listening to a podcast like the President's Daily Brief, 2x a day, 15-20m. Social media is by far the biggest problem, but I think it just hooked the same people that need to watch the news all day, and have all their notifications turned on.

The Internet is a Godsend, though. I don't need to scan manuals for equipment I buy page by page anymore, for starters.
