The 11 gold medals we've won is the most golds we've won in any winter Olympics.

“The US choking” narrative has definitely been exaggerated.
We’re having an excellent games. 2nd in overall medal count, 2nd in overall gold medal count. This is our most golds of all time, and close to our highest medal count of all time, 37 at Vancouver.
So most golds ever, and 3rd most medals ever for our team. 2nd in Gold’s, and medals in this Olympics. The Men’s Hockey team can still win minimum a silver, and potentially a gold tomorrow.
I will say, we have missed a few opportunities though.
Chloe Kim silver on half pipe instead of the Gold.
Stolz silver in the 1,500 instead of the gold.
Stolz missing a medal entirely in the Mass Start.
Women’s Curling team dropping 2 straight to lose a medal.
Malinin, missing a medal entirely.
Had all those gone our way, you’re looking at 3 more total medals, and 3-4 more of our medals being Gold.
We’re having a huge Olympics, despite a couple moments we should have done better in. So I take that as a good sign. We’re having a big Olympics despite some mishaps.

Or espoused by those who thought this was the Summer Olympics or under the impression we were historically Nordic kings.

I would say this even happens in the summer games too. People just assume the US will win because US. I swear every summer Olympics at least one or two people will start a thread about why the US isnt winning the Olympics a week in - well before track, swimming, and gymnastics medals start coming in.

It's even more impressive we broke it without a gold in snowboarding considering that's where usually like 1/3rd of our golds come from
We seem to be making strides in cross country which is cool

The US has led the Winter Olympics in medal count only once in its history....
1932 Games at Lake Placid...only because 25 Nations didn't send athletes that competed 4 years earlier. No Soviets, no Netherlands.
USA had 64 athletes compete, Norway had 19.
Every other Olympics it was Norway, Sweden or the USSR that has led the medal count.

“The US choking” narrative has definitely been exaggerated.
The US/ESPN invented a lot of the stunt sports (Winter X-Games) and we've gotten progressively worse as the Asians poor money into their programs. I've already said it but people are going to lose their damn minds when the Mexican flag football team wins gold in LA. That track team better come to LA ready to go. It's usually our "catch up" discipline but with the weeks flipped they need to build a lead in week 1 for the swimmers to hold onto in week 2.

Without Klaebo we'd be right with Norway too. Norway's dominance in cross country, biathlon, and ski jumping is the difference. We commit resources to cross country skiing and we completely close the gap with them.

Wtf why are they charging the order of events
Posted on 2/21/26 at 7:51 pm to Broski
There’s like 2 x the number of events since the 90s

You can win as many medals as you can count, and still choke.
Many of them choked, as prove in the posts.

I wanna know what Norwegians do year round for work. Like they have 5.5 million people and they’re dominating the medal count. Are all of them training for this shite?

edged out Italy for second, thought they were going to shock
Let’s cap it off with the most memorable moment of them here!

Biathlon and cross country skiing have massive medal hauls, and it’s their two best events. They also have the equivalent of Michael Phelps in his prime in the latter event.
Unlike Sweden and Finland, they have minimal presence in the only team sport, ice hockey.
The US is the one country where they send at least somewhat competitive athletes in every sport besides biathlon, whereas Norway has no presence in luge, bobsled, figure skating, hockey, etc but they are damn efficient at what they’re into.

Swimming is over a week in.

Maybe true, but they've also added a lot of random events/medals over the last couple of Olympics.
