At that age, they actually should be going somewhere to play school

Totally agree. There are some kids that want to play school and have a chance to win a championship.

Do attendance zones still matter ? where if you go from in zone to out of zone you still have to sit out ? if so , this will essentially only apply to kids transferring within the same attendance zone, is that accurate ?

So then they should get rid of the split, right?

would only matter in terms if you get accepted to new school or not

if you get in...dont have to sit out varsity comp that year.

i hope it passes

In January 2025, LHSAA principals voted down a proposal that would have allowed Louisiana high school student-athletes to transfer schools once without losing immediate athletic eligibility. The measure was defeated by a wide margin (approximately 80-20) due to concerns regarding increased recruiting and unfair advantages for schools with more resources. = Shreveport Tim... +1 Key details regarding the vote and transfer rules: • Current Rule: Students transferring to a new school without a hardship waiver must still sit out for one full calendar year. • Failed Proposal: The defeated proposal would have permitted a free one-time transfer

Not doubting you but do you have a link? When I search I only find that this idea was overwhelmingly voted down in January.

It's next Thursday if you are talking about the LHSAA vote. FWIW, I emailed my government rep and complained about this. This is a waste of tax dollars and shouldn't have any government intervention. The sport will be worse off for this, just like college sports. And this is literally only about sports, it doesn't have anything to do with academics. If you want to go to a better academic school, you can already do so, you just may have to sit out a year. This is exclusively about sports. It's going to be all fun and games until you have a kid who had an important starter or three on their team bail on the squad and you know that seriously affects how your kids team will be able to do in the playoffs. You won't be so excited when good coaches just straight up quit than have to recruit their own squads back to their team each year. It's not cute, and it's going to be the cause of a direct drop in competitiveness in the high school ranks

Yes, the split will no longer exist. It will go back to just 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A.

How anyone can watch what college sports have become and think this is a good idea is mind numbingly ignorant to me.

I hate how even middle schools try to stack their teams by poaching. It’s fricking middle school.

Kids can already go to any orivate school that allows them in, and any public school that they are districted for. If you want to go to a different public school, then you have to move. I'm seeing a lot of people confused by this. The state can't force a school district to take out of district kids, and some have already said they won't take kids from out of the district.

Because of this, there will be no ending of the split. It's only going to get worse. Schools that don't accept transfers are going to be at an even bigger disadvantage. Why won't they accept transfers in? Because it's local tax money paying for the education. Kids from outside the district don't pay those taxes. It's unfair to the tax base to allow kids who don't pay taxes to come in and tax spots away from those who do. This whole thing is poorly thought out.

I realize that some are obviously taking advantage of the transfer, but a kid could legitimately move several times through his/her high school career. Districts should matter. If you live in the district and your parents/guardians can prove that, then there shouldn't be any restriction for a transfer.
This won't apply to private school because one could literally attend a private school the next parish or two over if he wanted to. Or several states over, ie. IMG Academy.
