Folks clutching pearls over a barbie doll while ignoring the most racist image in history.

An entire float of people in blackface on a float titled "African Gorilla".
Youtube Link
Just a few floats earlier a float of large Black women in blackface titled "African Hippo".,
EDIT: I understand the reasoning behind the blackface and such in Zulu owning the folks trying to mock black folks. And that is awesome for them to do so. It was just frustrating watching folks and politicians at the local, state and national level condemn a parade over symbolism that, at the symbolic level, is far more egregious despite the root reason. The pearl clutchers did not care that the two riders also had put beads around the white barbie doll necks to throw them. 60 black and white barbies were thrown. The Mayor made it a national story. Two riders were expelled. Damn the reason or facts. Act on the symbolism..

"Racism" has just gone off the rails. Its meaning and effect changes daily.

Back in the good old days, when people's very existence didn't depend on being offended.

Zulu used to reach out to and sort of quietly encourage white professionals to ride in the parade. I know people who rode previously. They, of course, had to adhere to the ‘blackface’ costuming rules and after at least one rather high profile cancelling of a woman because of such pics, you don’t really see any white riders these days.

Not saying that the outrage about the Barbie is legit (it isn't) but isn't that kinda the history/point of Zulu?
Wear blackface, throw coconuts. Basically play up every racist stereotype about black people to an extreme and own it?

Now this would be an example of a racist depiction, but then again, if Zulu wanted them to do it, who cares? The OP is grasping at straws.

It certainly is and I appreciate that effort but the imagery still hits.
I just got exhausted with the race at the local, state and national level to condemn a parade because two guys put some beads around a barbie dolls neck. And who had done the same to white barbies they threw,.
If they are that worried about symbolism....

I don't care about this and truthfully, neither do black people. They, like most everyone these days, just want to be victims and the attention that comes with it.
Its the same as everyone on Facebook claiming to have some disease or issue for likes.
"My ADD kicked in and I cleaned my house today."
No, bitch, you don't have ADD. You are just normal and don't like living like a pig. Congrats. ADD doesn't just randomly kick on and off.

back in my day "racism" meant thinking one race was superior to others. "I am better than that guy because I'm this race and he's that race, therefore I am better than him". Now it just means literally ANYTHING having to do with race, at all.
"That bank robber from yesterday was black"
OH THAT'S RACIST

Don't even let it bother you. Racism has no meaning now.

A decade or so ago the Bogalusa mardi gras parade was themed "New Orleans Mardi Gras" so each mens club, or den, picked a crew to imitate. My FILs group submitted "Bulu", a parody of Zulu. Their intention was to go blackface and throw coconuts.
MCCA, the overseeing org, told them they couldn't do it. Such a great opportunity to get some exposure for that org, and yet we missed it. Would've definitely made the news.
