CBO report last week

quote:

BREAKING: US national debt is set to surge +$2.4 trillion PER YEAR over the next 10 years, according to new CBO estimates.

As a result, US debt will likely reach a record $64 TRILLION in 2036, doubling from 2023 levels.

That would be TRIPLE the debt recorded in 2018, before the pandemic.

All while the annual interest costs on federal debt are expected to more than double, to $2.1 trillion, over the next 10 years.

This also assumes the economy will not fall into a recession over the entire period.

$64 trillion in debt is now the base case.

How did we end up here?

Those aren't even real numbers at this point. No human can truly comprehend the reality of that type of money. You might as well just have a random number generator.

Truly laughable at this point.

Why don't these other countries owe us? We're the ones bailing them out all the time.

The country is too lazy to fire their politicians. They are too worried about yelling and screaming about "the other side" while they keep putting the same people back in the same position and bitch that nothing ever gets done.

220 years for our debt to hit 12 trillion.

From 2020-2024 we added 12 trillion to the debt.

220 years worth of debt in 4 years.

Around 70% of our budget goes to welfare programs.

36 million million is the best way I can begin to grasp it, but you are right. Really hard for anyone without a finance degree from Wharton to truly coneptualize.

It’s actually pretty easy to imagine.

we need to pass a bill that forgives the national debt. AOC is the only lawmaker smart enough to get this done.

Social security, Medicare, Medicaid end up being roughly 50% of the budget alone. Income security (other welfare programs) end up costing roughly 18-20 percent.

Debt is another 10ish. Military another 10ish. And the last 10ish is everything else:

And you are just misleading people. "Other welfare" is around 2.5 percent.

Where are your farm subsidies and corporate welfare and the rest of the programs classified as income security?

Yep, and any politician trying to slow down social security would get voted out. That's the issue. No politician wants to touch it.
