Another fricking I-12 accident/traffic jam

Why do these interstate accidents keep occurring? There seems to be more than usual. It adversely affects thousands of people every time. ?We’re presently ?trying to get to the hospital in Baton Rouge now because my mom is in route, but we’re stuck bypassing the interstate in traffic. No I’m not driving. State and local officials, what is the root cause of this increase in I-12 traffic accidents and what can be done about it? Why isn’t this information being given to citizens? We hear about laws broken in robberies, domestic disputes, and assaults in the news, why not traffic infractions resulting in fatalities tieing up traffic for hours? Are handheld device laws and driving in the left lane laws really being enforced or is law-enforcement too busy settling domestic disputes over french fries at Burger King? ?

I think “Traffic Jam” is the perfect name for my home made jelly.

It's a combination of shitty infrastructure and retarded drivers acting a fool.
There's a reason La. has the most people moving out year after year.

1. Idiot LA drivers.
2. Among the most inept state infrastructure planning in the nation.

Their "Plan" was good for 1950, but not now. Its absolutely asinine that three continuous lanes on I-12 hasn't been completed.

I hold the belief anyone at fault of causing a wreck on an interstate should lose their drivers license permanently. It is a straight road. No major curves, stop signs, or red lights to run

Threeputt,
I hope you got to the hospital and your Mom's getting good treatments.
I spent a Friday afternoon in D.C. traffic trying to get to Virginia to see my Dad in hospital. I can still feel the frustration when I remember it.
Just know you aren't alone, and your feelings are totally justified.

I12 needs to be 3 lanes from Slidell to BR. The highway has too much congestion on the two-lane portions.

You can’t blame infrastructure here. It’s a wide open, flat, straight piece of interstate. Idiotic drivers.

One of the things my home state of Texas does really well is building highways and specifically major interchanges.
We still have major traffic due to unchecked population growth here in Dallas, but check out these engineering marvels they've built.
My father worked on some of these projects as an engineer.

Sorry to hear your mom is having some gas.
Someone died today.

Unfortunately 3 people.
I still hope his Mom is okay, but I get your point.

You see people switching lanes every chance they get, trying to get ahead of other drivers instead of picking a lane and staying 3 seconds behind the next car? That's why. It's assholes that think driving is a race, and that someone getting ahead of them, or merging in front of them is a personal attack. They believe that weaving in and out of traffic and getting up to the highest possible speed they can will somehow get them to where they are going 10 minutes sooner than if they had simply gone with the natural flow of traffic. And sadly, that's most drivers. Most drivers are normal people that become immature fricksticks behind the wheel of a car.

I-12 needed to be 3x3 for its whole distance 30 years ago. Louisiana has long terms plans to slowly do that but that’s years away of course, though they are working on it.
They also need to remove the archaic cloverleaf interchanges at I-55 and Airline Highway and replace them with high speed stack interchanges.
