We had a whirlpool washer for about five years that we got for free when we moved into a house. No idea how long the people before us had it. Anyways it broke in August of last year. We replaced it with the same model even though I saw a few reviews about the washer having bad boards on them now (all of the different washers seemed to have mixed reviews). Well, yesterday I thought I smelled a little burning smell then the spin cycle wouldn't work. Looked at the error codes and it is pointing to bad communication in the electronics.

I am calling tomorrow to try to get it repaired under the warranty, but honestly would love to just get my money back at this point. Anyone know if it is possible to get money back for an issue like this? Am I going to have to fight this to get a repair covered under warranty?

Just got mine fixed a few weeks ago. The pump on mine would keep trying to drain the tub after it had finished the entire wash cycle. It was a bad board 5 minute fix but the board is almost 300 bucks. It is a whirlpool defect. Its not even being covered under the normal warranty. Whirlpool is just paying for all of them to be replaced. Can't remember all of the model numbers but the tech told me is started with one # and it is now several model numbers.

MIne is nearly the same Model # WTW4816FW3

I am sure it is the same board issue. You shouldn't have any issues. Where did you buy it? I bought mine at Lowe's and had the extended warranty. Contacted Lowe's and they set it all up. When the tech come out he knew right away what it when I told him what it was doing and told me that they weren't even using the warranty, Whirlpool was covering everything.

lol theyre not giving you your money back. Luckily most repairmen work on Whirlpool so you won’t have to wait as long for a warranty repair

At least manufacturers listened to the public about the "energy" saving bullshite.

Fill the damn thing up with water and let me worry about the water bill.

This was actually super helpful. It made me double check if I had purchased anything extra through Lowes. Looks like I did purchase a little extra Lowe's coverage, but they are making me contact Whirlpool first since it's < 1 year of purchase. Whirlpool support doesn't open until tomorrow.

Thanks for the help!

100%!!!!
After two Maytag Bravos washers, both bought brand new in two years, we bought a mid level GE. It’s been 5 years and I just had to replace the belt. But that’s been it. The whirlpool gold series refrigerator is on its way out. The ice maker has gone out twice and now the drain line has clogged so bad the appliance repair guy said we’d have to let it defrost for over 24hrs then they could clean the line.

Whirlpool has a service adjustment on control boards that fail at the pressure switch.
I see these all the time. Issue is whirlpool takes weeks to come and fix them.
Boards very commonly fail on 6 light whirlpool/maytag lots of things commonly fail on those. ..

It's very common. I get at least a call a week "my machine is draining constantly"
The boards are easy to fix. Just need to solder in a $15 part but Whirlpool charges a core charge so that you don't keep and fix them.

Some models are covered some are not. I prefer to take payment rather than be paid back by Whirlpool.
