I’ve mentioned before that I have an aunt that is a retired LEO. She points out to me during parades when band chaperones are carrying. I wish to God they didn’t have to, but I understand why they are. What do y’all think?

Edit: Krewe d’Etat killed it. Everyone else can continue to suck because they’re pansies.

Nah. She raised her kids and had sharp shooter and SWAT awards. She’s my personal heroine.

Snitches get stitches.

Prepare for stitches.

I feel like this thread is getting derailed. But idc. I’ve seen and done so much shite that I have more stitches than Frankenstein’s monster.

Did you expect better at this time of night / morning?

Is it your first day?

I wish we didn't live in an age where people had to question any time they saw someone open carrying.

Are you sure of all the details? Maybe they are off duty LEO being paid as security? That’s very common.

Maybe they carry every day and are also a chaperone?

Why does carrying bother you?

but I understand why they are

Why? Name one incident when a high school band member in a parade needed to be protected by a firearm.

Seems like a big risk for the very small chance they would need one. You get arrested quick for having a gun on a parade route. Not sure anyone wants band chaperons firing off rounds if needed anyways

I carry all the time.

I would rather have a chance to protect myself in a violent situation

there are ALOT of guns on parade routes..criminals (as well as the large groups of yutes that follow the bands behind the crowds), regular joes carrying, permit holders, plainclothes cops and uniformed cops. Granted, only the cops are doing it have the legal right to do

Anyone who carries into a situation they expect to need it should step back and re-evaluate the situation and why they are going to be there...

I carry everyday because I *might* need it and it is my choice to do so.... theae days if I expect I will need it, then I simply stay away.

I did not say I question their right. At all. I said that it’s sad that it’s necessary.

I can see the need.

Hell in 1981 or '82 my high school band marched in the Contraband Days parade in Lake Charles. It was a damn shite show, to use an expression we had not heard yet.

There were drunks all down the route having to be cleared out of the way or stumbling into the formation. Once or twice a drunk tried to run his hands over one of the flag girls.

Assholes aimed cigarette and cigar butts at the tuba bells, they were nasty as hell when the parade was over.

Even as an immature teenager who thought I was the shite, I was kind of shocked at the fricking behavior we saw.

All the parents said, Never Again!

Either that SWAT team was damned near useless because of low standards or she was a feel-good token. Or both.
