Pulmonary used to have 1st basemen that looked like they would bunt for hits. Jay has first basemen with big ole gorilla bawls that they'll drag all over your forehead after hitting a HR off your best pitcher.

PM had some good ones there for a while. Then he suddenly stopped recruiting true first baseman and decided to start trying to convert middle infielders. It worked out with Deichman, but not really with anyone else.

I mean... his last 1B at LSU was Tre Morgan.

I mean not really lol. PM blamed Deichman for a loss in a post game presser then moved him to RF.

Why LSU fans feel the need to crap on title winning coaches years after they are gone is beyond me.

PM definitely wasn’t the greatest LSU baseball coach, but he’s been long gone.

By 2017 Deichmann played RF primarily. Nick Coomes and Jake Slaughter platooned at 1B in 2017. Neither were small

In 2018, Austin Bain and Bryce Jordan played first. Neither were small.

In 2019, Cade Beloso played first. He played there in 2020 as well until the season ended.

Then Morgan played there Mainieri’s last season.

I really need to know who these small first basemen we had under Mainieri were.

Our fans, in typical fashion, love to over exaggerate and have revisionist history regarding the size of our players under Mainieri. We had like a small window at the beginning of BBCOR when HRs just didn’t happen where Mainieri started recruiting more guys who could manufacture runs rather than just play gorilla ball with the whole lineup. He basically saw what happened to us in Omaha in 2013 and tried to build his team to hit there rather than hit ball after ball that died at the warning track. That lasted a few years while the bats were dead. And that period also produced players like Kramer, Duplantis, Freeman, Laird, Bregman, etc

Exactly... the irony in all of this is that Morgan was one of the smaller 1B Mainieri had in his tenure.

And that small 1B is a big reason why LSU won a 7th national title.

The hatred for Mainieri and the lies spread about him on this board continue to be stupid.

The tiny first baseman LSU had last season originally committed to Mainieri.

He might have been the smallest. Def had the least amount of pop out of all of them. Best hitter but Tre wasn’t hitting home runs

Hughes didn't play first base. He was a middle infielder.

Why do some LSU fans love to shite on prior coaches who were overall successful?

When McMullen is the big stick in your lineup you got problems
