Sad a young kid dies of colon cancer.
GET A COLONOSCOPY, as this is one cancer folks should not die from.

I get checked often at the Butt Barn. They have caught some polyps early. Colon Cancer is one of the slowest which is why getting tested can literally save your life.

I’m 54, had one at 50. Think at 55 gonna do the stool test thing. Then at 60, another colonoscopy. Heart disease or another cancer is where I worry.

This is one of the reasons why it's now recommended to get your first screening (cologuard or colonoscopy, depending on your risk factors) at age 45 instead of waiting until age 50

Yeah how can anyone feel comfortable with a test that gives false negatives?
Just do the real thing, it's really not bad. Amazing sleep from it too. Which is good since you're getting violated.

I had my first colonoscopy at 40 due to my grandmother dying at 65 from CC. Doc found three precancerous polyps. I've had a colonoscopy every five years since.

My family has a bad history with CC, Dad, his brother, his father, and a few cousins. I have to get checked every 3 years due to what they've found in me and the history. 2 days out of my life every 3 years is a small price to pay but I've got to do it.

Yep, wife is in same boat. She goes every 5 years and they find polyps every single time. Matter of fact, she has to have it done this summer.

My Dad died from colon cancer. It was horrible. I get tested on a regular basis.

Don't wait 5 years if you're not going to get a colonoscopy. The frequency for cologuard, FOBT kits, etc is shorter than the standard colonoscopy.

Van Der Beek got tested about 2 years ago sooo 46? Cancer is a mutha fukka....I think he went in and he was diagnosed at Stage 4 which meant he had it for some time, because usually it is slow moving.

I heard from some one the Cologuard kits count as a screening so the cost is reduced through insurance, but if you end up needing a colonoscopy, you will get dinged with standard billing and coinsurance. But if you opt not to do the Cologuard screening and go directly to the colonoscopy, the colonoscopy is your screening at a greatly reduced rate through your insurance.

Every plan is different so you need to check your evidence of coverage or call your insurance company...if they cover cologuard at no cost they will cover a colonoscopy at no out of pocket cost.
I think the confusion may be..IF you have cologuard done as a preventative screening and it comes back positive for polyps then the next step before anything else is a diagnostic colonoscopy which can/might have an out of pocket cost for the patient depending on what's covered in the plan.
But if your plan covered a preventative colon screening at no cost and it covers cologuard at no cost, then a preventative colonoscopy will absolutely be no cost as well.
Avoid the SHIELD test right now, FOBT kits need to be done annually, Cologuard every three years and colonoscopy every 5 years and every PCP and Gastro you will speak to will say "anything is better than nothing" but a Colonoscopy is the standard and best option.

As in the other thread, I would get one at least at age 40 and do it every 5 years to be safe. Lost a friend at age 48 from it after a few years battle with this horrible disease. It’s not bad, great sleep. Get it done!

Same can be said for a PSA, but many men opt for the lab test over having a finger shoved up their arse. Just depends on the individual.
And you speak as if the colonoscopy is without risk, which it isn’t. Although the risks are limited and the benefits easily outweigh them.

Exactly. I don’t see what the long term risks are to 3 more colonoscopies.
