Who is the worst LSU coach (in big sports) over the last 50 years?

Impossible to compare one sport against another, but McMahon's .250 record in SEC games stands out (16-48). Overall record is 59-62.
Football coach Hallman was .364 overall (16-28) and .323 (10-21) in SEC.
Jim Smith in baseball (1966-1978) went .487 overall and .429 in SEC.
Numbers don't lie; nor do they tell which coach is the worst.

The worst I’ve ever seen in any sport major or not is Matt McMahon.

KELLY, due to his total lack of work ethic....

Jay McCreary (Men's Basketball, 1957–65) .416 (82–115 over 8 seasons)
Longest poor tenure in basketball; worst multi-season basketball percentage.
Frank Truitt, who coached the men's basketball team during the 1965–1966 season, had the lowest winning percentage at .231 (6–20 record).

Curly Hallman and it's not even close. Ex players have some amazing stories.

As far as W-L’s go, I’m gonna say Curley Hallman. As far as expectations vs. achievement, I’ll say Smoke Laval…

Depends on your age I imagine. For me, it’s Matt McChucklefrick and it’s not close.

He damn sure wasn't Skip but he went to Omaha twice. Dude deserves a statue compared to a bum like McMahon.

While Smoke was bad, he was not the worst. Granted it might have been Skip's players but in his first season he made a Super. In his second, he won the SEC and made Omaha as the #2 seed, then lost the first 2 and never recovered. Huge let down, but he did win some.

His first weekend in town he got drunk at the happy note. Joe Dean had to send some guys to get him. Curley loved the whiskey and co Ed’s.
