It’s time for the Daytona 500! Will be more action than the Super Bowl.

NASCAR died over a decade ago. Give it a rest.

I quit watching once they started competition cautions flags. It's nothing but a bunch of entitled punks.

Sad, but true.

I agree. But if you watched that clip it harkens backwards to a better time. Thats an official nascar ad. If they do move backwards that can only be a good thing.
I could give you a thousand lines of how bad they managed this series. I also keep hoping they wake up. After shedding millions of viewers and looking bad in their lawsuit - its possible they’ve hit bottom and realize how mucked up they made it.
They changed and went backwards on seasonal points/chase. That's a start.
The ad shows their roots in moonshining runs and many other “having fun and drinking beer” ways, it really was well done. One can only hope they start undoing some of the BS. They show families not dressed to like F1 high rollers. They are going back after the blue collar fan and family. Time will tell.
Another aspect is F1 had gained traction and viewers the past 5 years. It was shown on ESPN without commercials. With Caddy joining they had a real chance to beat Nascar in some races viewership this year. Had all the momentum.
And then F1 went and FAFO. They sold the broadcast rights to Apple. Meaning they just lost a huge portion of their US audience as many don’t have it and those who do are tired of all these streaming or other platforms winning sports and jacking prices. These many different platforms are killing viewers and fans are tired of having so many different ones so are slowing down use of them.
So with F1 losing US audience that means both Nascar and Indycar stand to increase viewers. I think both realize this gift and want to take advantage of it. With NFL becoming polarizing as well, Nascar has a chance to win some fans back.
We’ll see how the first 5 races compare year over year but this ad does show more old school Nascar thinking than before.
We’ll see

Between the marketing and the points change it does seem like a genuine effort to cater to traditional fans. Guess we'll see.
A black guy in a Larson shirt was interesting. The sport is healing

Got you beat stopped watching when they stopped racing back to the yellow. The stupid playoff put the final nail in it for me.

Matt Kenseth dominating the season points while only winning one race caused them to change the points system. Started to die after that.

I really feel like NASCAR never recovered from debuting the car of tomorrow around 2007 if I recall correctly, and the years of Jimmy Johnson dominance made it boring. I was a Johnson fan, but it got to be too stale and no true rivalries also made it boring.
Also the 1.5 mile tracks is some boring stuff to watch. They need more short track racing and maybe add some more races to Daytona and Talladega.

Which was dumb. Kenseth was extremely consistent that season. I looked it up: 1 win, 11 Top 5s, 25 Top 10s, an average finishing position of 10.3, and only 2 DNFs.
He earned the championship, even if he only had one win.

I agree. That's why I never understood why they changed the points system, but they did because they wanted to put more focus on wins.

In 2026, competition for eyeballs isn’t among other racing formats, it’s against every other possible form of entertainment / leisure activity
All the new F1 fans arguably aren’t even into motorsports. They’re into drama and characters and the overall F1 production. If they dip it’s not going to be into NASCAR

Kurt Busch won the inaugural new chase format in 2004 and really didn’t have that impressive of a year.

I think you have to be honest and realize many Nascar fans stopped and moved onto F1. But F1 going solely Apple means they may return to Nascar. And Nascar getting more back to roots could help.
Then you have 3 Nascar series but F1 likely took away from some or all. With F1 gone viewers may come back. Nothing earth shattering but Nascar hit rock bottom then was embarrassed in lawsuit then was embarrassed when emails were released shitting on a certain owner and calling him a redneck.
Its possible they realized how bad they came off and perhaps they realized why give ip an older but loyal fanbase when the new younger watchers were not loyal. Many things happened in the past year and it seems they are trying to undo a few decades of BS. It won’t be undine in a year but to me this is an important year for them. Do they just ignore everyone or do they change course?
This will be an important year to find out. That ad tells me they are going to try and get viewers back. Not sure if it’s too late but it might be. Or they learned hard lessons and adjusting.
This week is their Super bowl:
Wed night qualifying for P1/P2
Thu night duel races for rest of positions
Fri Truck race
Sat O’Reilly race
Sun Cup race

Nascar died for me when Dale Earnhardt died. Not sure if I’ve watched it since.
