I did some consulting for Sanderson Farms years back at one of their major processing plants.
Got to the area where they were packaging raw chicken for supermarkets and it blew my mind to see Great Value labels and packages next to their name brand packages.
Never bought name brand again after that

I saw the same thing at one of the dairy plants that is pretty big in my area. At the time, their milk was nearly $4/gal while Great Value milk was like $1.19. The plant's labeling line was splitting the gallons into two lines and one line got their brand label and one line got Great Value labels.
Before that, I would have bet my life that the brand name milk tasted better than Wal-Mart milk.

Same for bread. All comes from the same place, delivered in the same truck.

This is not new. Do you think Costcos is making Kirlkland stuff, or Sams is making Members Mark. I think everyone knows that name brands sell their stuff for 1/2 under store brand names. This is somehow new to you?

I love store brands. Winn Dixie Premium Vodka was my go to in high school.

Yeah this has been known since the introduction of store brands.
Funny Kirkland sometimes holds there in house brands to higher standards than the name brands that produce them

One of my economics classes taught that the manufacturing and production facilities operate to maximize profits. Core objective for businesses. They have capacity to produce more but the market (demand) purchases less than the capacity. Instead of shutting the plant down they lease the additional capacity out to competitors to make money in the time they otherwise wouldnt be making money.

Yeah.. Its kind of like how most gas comes from the same place. Or bread. Its made at the same place, but different companies have things they add into it. Shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.
