OT Poors - How much did you spend on Valentine's flowers this year?

I just spent $120 ordering a medium sized mixed bouquet. The flower business seems like highway robbery.
Guess I should consider it an investment with Steak & BJ day right around the corner on March 14. Funny how they timed that.

Dont be lazy and go to the local super market. Just as nice, half the price.

buy them on the 15th and they're even cheaper! You can get away with that after 25 years of marriage.

I hate getting flowers.
I either have to trim them up and vase them... and eventually chuck them and wash the vase..
or I have to eventually find a place to store a new vase after chucking the flowers and washing the vase.
It's a gift with labor attached, no thanks.
A nice steak and a bottle of wine at home is perfect.

My wife knows I love her, and part of expressing that love is by NOT spending $120 on fricking flowers. She'd kill me.

Groupon is the only way I buy flowers.

ill spend 15 bucks on the ones at roberts and call it a day. she doesnt want me to get anything for her anyway. that's a classic trap for the younger guys.

Sounds like your issue is with the gifter, not the gift
When I buy my wife flowers, they are fully on display when she gets home. Every few days, I trim the stems and replace the water. Once they start to turn, I throw them out and clean the vase. To me, that's part of the gift.

You might have a point.
Still, steak and wine for the win.

A steak and bottle of wine still sounds better and easier

My wife and I decided early in our marriage that it was unnecessary to buy each other a gift on all occasions except Christmas. If they had gift certificate cards back then we may have done that. We figured if we wanted something we’d do better getting it ourselves.

Similar, except we don't even do Christmas. Buy what you want for yourself and call it a day. Big anniversary dates get something, but otherwise we exchange nothing.

$0 she passed away in '24 so I have been saving $$ for V-days, Birthdays, Mothers day and Xmas for a bit.

I personally hate typical cut flowers. My hubby knows that and keeps a potted white orchid for me at all times on our kitchen table. When all the flowers drop, he replaces it. This year for v-day, I asked him for a big candle that I want, he was more than happy to oblige. He does get our teenage girls flowers every year, & has since they were little.

I get flowers delivered for birthdays and deaths, and lord some of them are over $200. It's wild.
Realistically, I could take said friend to dinner with a bottle of nice wine and Uber rides for both of us and have gotten a better deal out of it.

I never give flowers for Valentines day. The wife made it clear early on that that is not special. Give them on a random day. Means more.

Yeah, I've gotten lazy, but for a few years we had fresh flowers every week from either here or Whole Foods or Robert. There are even accounts on IG where floral people show you what to buy and how to arrange to make it look like it was $100.
My best friend still gets them from TJ's every single Saturday. I need to get back on that.
