Delta Tau Delta hazing death at NAU

It sucks b/c we know these college students know better but for most people (me included) being seen as cool and finding community in college was so important. I never joined a fraternity despite very strong peer pressure to do so. Looking back on it it was one of the best decisions I ever made before 21. The frats I was interested had THE WORST pledging processes and I would've been a serious a-hole with a whole lotta of issues that stemmed from my time in those fraternities.

No one is getting hazed at a rush event so not sure why it's the focus here. An underage student went too hard and sadly paid a price so many have luckily avoided and many lives will now be changed forever.

That's not true. Some fraternities start hazing their PC before rush is announced. Rush for them is just a formality so they won't get in trouble with IFC. I've known fraternities to have confirmed their PC months in advance

LOL can you please breakdown what's wrong with being an individual or independent. I never understood the insult. Being codependent on a frat for a social life and identity after being a voluntary slave for months is much better and honorable? I'm really not understanding

Delts have one of the more stringent rush/pledge supervision/guidance of all fraternities. They cleared out my chapter for two brothers drunkenly stealing a forklift and using it to destroy SAE's lions. We were down to 20 actives and had national up our arse for a year. There is always going to be stupidity which is impossible to avoid in these one off occurrences.
I was in a far better place after one of those brothers took my drunk arse to my room and told me to get help. I'm not sure what downing a RSC of Hot 100 chased by a RSC of Jack and all of that chased by several beers does for the BAC but I could've easily been a statistic. It's not the greek system at fault. People blaming it are just trying to deflect blame from the people who made the decision to drink excessive amounts of alcohol.
