Trump admin to eliminate DEF deratement

Not eliminating DEF (yet), but getting rid of the deratement which sets the engine to crippled almost no power when the exhaust system fails apparently.

This is correct. OEMs aren’t in the business of retooling for admins. Also CARB is going to sue over this and it’ll get stuck in the courts.
The only way this really has an impact is if the EPA chills on aftermarket programmers to override the derate. I highly doubt OEMs will offer reflashes. And the aftermarket stuff will still have warranty concerns especially on diesels that everyone wants to crank up.

I deleted my 2008 Megacab but didn’t delete my 17 or 22 F250. I miss having a deleted diesel with no def and hope they go back to that eventually.

I did a ton of work to my 05 250. Turbo, mbrp straight pipes, sct tuner, etc. some of that was because of the damn oil cooler and egr issues. But when I got my 11 250 I didn’t touch it. The new ones there’s just too much for me to deal with pm a daily. Also I’m getting older

Well fortunately enabling and disabling limp mode is basically a button click in the software. Theres basically zero development cost with it and there is a chance that 2027 model trucks will not have DEF related 5mph limp modes.
And really, that solves the biggest issue with SCR systems. The forced limp modes are downright dangerous. If you get a limp mode impending fault you have 200 miles to get to a dealership, and youre stuck there until they fix it, which might well take a month or two.

It should all be gotten rid of. Especially on tractors. There isn’t enough tractors operating to make much of a difference emissions wise but that shite is a costly burden on farmers and tractors have become unreliable pieces of shite due to it all.
