Coach Johnson confirmed that the pitch velocities are intentionally being withheld from posting on the scoreboard to prevent this information being publicized on line.

If Coach Jay Johnson told me swimming across the Mississippi River was easier and quicker than going over the New Bridge by car I'd tell him thats a good idea coach and jump in.

If Coach Jay Johnson told me bunny rabbits can plow, I'd harness 'em up and hop to the field.

Yeah lol Kade Anderson led the country in strikeouts with an uptick in fastball velo, Eyanson and his fastball that impressed us last spring was the second best pitcher in the country and Shores and Meyers with their 100 mph came on late to help us win in Omaha. Lol, yeah that stuff really doesn’t matter, does it?

Is it really that vital for you to know how fast pitchers are throwing in a preseason scrimmage? For years we never had the pitch speed on the scoreboard at all.

Vital? Of course not. Nice to have for evaluation and potential purposes and fun to look at? Yeah. Im never a fan of taking away info from the fans, especially from the preseason. Its not like we are withholding a starting pitcher before omaha. Everyone is gonna know how hard these dudes throw after their first outing if they dont already

Im not every fan but I could care less if our two time national championship coach thinks it gives us an edge. Maybe its because Im older but I like just to just see on field performance. I take everything from practice of any sport with a grain of salt. The famous quote from Allen Iverson

Coach Johnson told me that an assistant let him know that pitch velos were on the internet and he decided to eliminate them from the scoreboard during scrimmages. Less information for opponents. I had guessed this was the reason for their absence.

Reading comprehension brother. He's saying that REVEALING the velocities to the public before the season didn't matter last year because they were revealed before the season and we still won a NC.

So teams will have to wait after week one to know the information? Seems pointless.

It’s cold, it’s early, and he knows pitchers now a days are checking the scoreboard to see their velos. Arm injuries are common in colder weather and that’s the last thing he needs is his guys overthrowing and hurting themselves before the season begins

There was a big discussion at ABCA about upticks in velocity which has led to an ongoing debate online.

I wonder if this is being framed as hiding from the fans, but in reality it is to hide it from the pitchers themselves who see the number on the scoreboard and then push to ramp up too quickly, which leads to injury.

OR, only one of the is throwing gas and they're trying to hide who.

The velocities were shown in the fall session so it is a bit selective

I fully expect some regulars to show up with speed guns to scrimmages now

In fact if we started a fund for that on here, I would donate

But in all seriousness something had to happen going into last year that made him suspicious, considering we never play anyone remotely decent to open the season not sure why it ultimately matters. If the Purdue-FW staff came in and knew all our pitchers velocities from winter scrimmages and we won those games 14-0, 10-1, 8-1...we'll probably survive if Milwaukee knows all our pitcher velocities from winter scrimmages going into this season I imagine
