KHOU: Michael '5000' Watts dies after battle with health complications
quote:
The Swishahouse family is mourning the loss of Michael “5000” Watts, the legendary Houston music figure credited with helping define Southern hip-hop’s sound and spirit.
In a statement released Friday, Swishahouse co-founder OG-Ron C called Watts a founder, visionary and “cultural architect” of the influential label, saying the team is announcing his passing with “profound sorrow.” Watts died Friday at Memorial Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands, surrounded by love, respect and the legacy he built.

"Hip Hop" is a scourge of same old repetitive crap on generations of youth, making them miss out on the joy of real music.
Thanks MTV

a. MTV didn't make hip hop popular. It gave the market, comprised of individuals who liked hip hop and demanded more of it, what it was asking for.
b. You're quite ignorant if you think MTV had anything to do with Screw being popular. It wasn't exactly a popular style, nationally

Idiot, It had EVERYTHING to do with it.
MTV told generations of youth they should be into this rap crap or they're racists.
It made the market for obvious purposes.

You're just making shite up
They took a lot of heat when hip hop transformed into rap and then gangsta rap in the 90s, as society was collapsing around it, for playing it. There was nothing about racism involved. People just loved the music and wanted more.

Yes you are showing your pride in your ignorance ITT.
Your pride in your creativity and alternative facts, as well

It’s crazy how the millenials had shitty ghetto rap forced on us our entire lives and now it’s been replaced by lesbian man hating pop music for the younger generation
Anyone who says “it’s what the people want” is lying. The popular music of the day is chosen by “industry” just like how early 2000s was dominated by douche rock bands like 3 doors down to encourage the boomlineals born in the 80s to go to iraq

Lol. You do know that in the beginning MTV flat REFUSED to even play videos by black artists.
They even refused to play Michael Jackson's Billy Jean video. It wasn't until CBS records threatened to pull all their other artists off the platform did MTV relent.

Cmon man you aren’t really this naive are you
In the days before the internet people would “love” whatever was on the radio because there wasn’t an easy way to get music otherwise. Humans are wired to like music. If the industry hadn’t decided to switch off big band we’d still be listening to it today. They switched to rock and roll because you don’t have to pay as many musicians
ETA: the switch to gangster rap was cia marketing to sell more crack

There’s a lot of truth here.
That was an era dominated by big recording companies, who pushed out music to radio (and then MTV), and didn’t promote other music. Their choices at the time.
