New LSU athletics policy aims to keep fans from leaving after basketball giveaways

LSU has implemented a new method to reward students for waiting in line before giveaway games and staying to support the teams. For those who don’t oblige, their season tickets can be at risk.
“Any student that leaves the PMAC prior to tip-off will be exit scanned, and will lose the privileges to their LSU Basketball student tickets for the remainder of the season.”

so LSU is trying to keep students at the games yet the resolution is well if you leave before tip off we'll take your tickets away?
seems logical

Actually, it does.
The policy stems from student giveaway games where, evidently, a significant number of students are showing up just to get whatever is being given away, then leaving immediately before the game even starts. That leaves some students who do stay at the game without the giveaway product.
I think what LSU is saying is that they want to reward the students who support the team. Not the ones who just come for free shite and leave as soon as they get it...literally before the game even starts.

Just get some PMac student workers to pass out the giveaway at the under 16 timeout in the 2nd half. Problem solved.

Are the lsu admin even watching these games

"This policy is intended to ensure giveaways are rewarded to students and fans who are genuinely there to support the team,” said director of fan experience Kelsey Dulinski. “The goal is to prevent individuals from collecting giveaway items and leaving before the game begins, and instead reward fans who arrive early, stay and actively cheer on the Tigers.”
I can understand what they're getting at, but how about putting a product on the floor that people want to actually stay and watch?
What a sorry arse state of the program. Thanks Matt McMahon, you sorry SOB.

The message in the athletics emails just says ‘LSU Basketball’ and does not specify men’s or women’s, but it has only appeared in promotional emails for men’s games so far.

So walk in through the student entrance, get promo item, then walk out basically any other exit. Not like they have the manpower/can police people leaving.

The real punishment would be to lock the doors behind them when they come in

Is that supposed to be a punishment?

What our astute LSU basketball marketing and promotions department fails to realize is that having an article written about an asinine policy like that hurts the basketball program far more than having a few students getting a free tshirt or hat then leaving before the game.
Every LSU employee associated with LSU basketball right now is completely clueless.

Starting this year, they sold an add-on where students who bought a season pass could get in the doors 15 minutes early. So you had a bunch of students taking advantage of it just so they could get in early, get the giveaway, then split.

LOL.. how could they possibly enforce this... Are they going to monitor all exits and ask everyone who is leaving if they used a student ticket to get in ?... What would work is to make all the students scan their ID upon arrival and exit... but to just make the ones leaving early get exit scanned will not do anything, the students leaving early will just go out a different exit.

When I was a student we sometimes had to get in line hours early, with some people camping out overnight, just to get in to the Assembly Center. How times have changed.
