quote:

Greenland fits squarely within that doctrine. America’s adversaries already understand what many past U.S. administrations ignored: The Arctic is no longer peripheral to global affairs. Greenland sits roughly equidistant between Washington and Moscow. It hosts critical early-warning and missile-defense infrastructure and lies along Arctic shipping routes that China and Russia are aggressively seeking to exploit.

quote:

The neglect of recent decades stands out as an alarming departure from a strategy that worked in containing the Soviet Union. The end of the Cold War did not end strategic competition, nor did it erase the threats posed by foreign adversaries.

While Russia and China rapidly expanded their icebreaker fleets and Arctic infrastructure, the United States allowed its readiness to erode. Today, America operates just three icebreakers as those two powers, mainly Russia, field more than 40 combined. These vessels are not built for symbolism; they are tools of influence and control.

Trump doesn't trust Russia?

quote:

My mission as special envoy for Greenland is straightforward: to advance American national security while opening avenues of economic opportunity, including for states like Louisiana, where I am governor. That work means advising the president on strengthening America’s presence, deepening local partnerships and aligning U.S. Arctic strategy with today’s realities. Greenland has never been peripheral to America’s security. History proves it. Strategy demands it.

I would hope our leaders don't trust the leaders of any other nation to look out for the interests of any other countries but their own.

Do governors frequently write op-eds in the NYT? I guess I haven't noticed.

I know Bobby J published an op ed against gay marriage in the NYT. Did Jon Bel Edwards ever write one there? Google isn't showing me one from him.

Landry will never be a smooth talker. No, he isn't on the same level as DeSantis. But, you know what? Landry has shown me that, while he isn't the smoothest or most articulate politician, he does have a knack for getting things done.

One example is how he stepped in and guided LSU with regards to firing both the football coach and the Athletic Director. The former AD, Scott Woodward, had told Brian Kelly that Kelly had to fire a couple of assistant coaches.

But, Landry knew that was like putting a bandaid on a bullet wound. Landry was responsible for firing both Kelly and the vastly overrated AD Woodward, who was responsible for a couple of bad hires and also a couple of terrible contracts.

That's what you call leadership. Landry will never be a great speaker, but he gets things done. That's much more important.

Hell, Obama was a great speaker when somebody wrote a speech for him and put it on a teleprompter. Where has that gotten us? Obama never retired, btw, for those of you who think he's yesterday's news.

Is that all?
I thought he was going to be talking about how we are going to pay for a new basketball coach.

I know I vowed to never post in another one of this person's threads, but I can't help myself....I have to say it...

FRICK JEFF LANDRY

There, I feel better. Now carry on with 10 pages of idiocy with the OP.

I believe getting a Op Ed in the NYT about a topic that is considered in his range of job duty makes him relevant, maybe not to you but was is it really about you anyway ?
