Any of you south LA folks have words of wisdom for dealing with named-storm ins claims?

File a claim. Have your policy handy.

Best I have is take pics of EVERYTHING EVERYTHING EVERYTHING!!!

Make needed emergency repairs (tarping etc) and keep all receipts.

I know people who’ve had to file (not sure what they’re called) but appeals .. requests for a second adjuster etc if they felt they were being screwed.

Best wishes to you. (Shreveport area?)

Pictures, videos, more pictures, more videos, all time and date stamped. Then take more pictures.

They will try to burn you, so you need evidence and lots of it. Take pictures throughout the process, before demo, during demo, after demo, during construction, and after construction.

The Weather Channel started naming winter storms a few years ago. This one was Fern.

Ida gave me a lot of experience, a tree fell on the house, $200K later we were all fixed up. If the damage is extensive, it is almost a full time job keeping up with it. Since I had a swimming pool involved, that complicated it by 2x. Here are some suggestions:

1. Read your policy carefully, this is crucial, if you don't know the rules, you can't play the game.

2. Document everything. Keep a phone log, set up a folder to put all the emails pertaining to the claim.

3. Setup a spreadsheet, either an Excel file or on paper if you don't have those skills.

4. Establish a good relationship with the adjuster, mine was a lady in Florida, demonstrate that you are working to mitigate the claim. Get 3 bids when possible, on major work.

5. Chose your General contractor carefully, he can make the process easy or difficult. That being said, the one I chose was not great, I had to watch every expense he claimed.

6. On your spreadsheet, match up the checks you get with the invoices you have open, not as easy as it sounds, my ins company would send me check with no reference on it to match, pulling teeth to get that information.

7. Don't sign releases, the claim isn't dome until you are made whole.

I'm sure I'm leaving out some important stuff, you can email me at syncloud357@gmail.com if I can be further assistance, Who is the ins carrier? I had Progressive, they were great to work with.

Hire a lawyer. It’s the only way you will get a fair settlement.

If you have any realtor friends ask if they have a matterport camera that does virtual tours. They are time, date and gps stamped and admissible in court.

The Weather Channel (TWC) does name winter storms to improve tracking and awareness, but these names generally do not affect insurance policies or trigger "named storm" deductibles. These asshats need to quit naming winter storms. It’s obviously a racket.

That may or may not be true. But that’s not the point of this thread.
