What does success on Illegal Immigration look like?

In a perfect world, we would deport every single last illegal immigrant in this country. We have the right to do it, and we should try to do it, but the reality is it’s extremely difficult. Or at the very least, it could take decades.
So it got me thinking - how do we judge Trump’s performance on illegal immigration and deportations? first and foremost, you have to stop the flow, which we already did. that cannot get overlooked. next, I would say 4 million removals during the term would be a success. the most removals ever in one year was in 2013 with 438k. Given that we have a mandate and more resources, I think we can more than double that to average 1 million per year. 2025 saw 330k removals so we’ve got some work to do the next three years. Note - these numbers don’t include self-deportations. Again, I think it’s unrealistic to expect 14+ million removals in 4 years, but I’ll take 4 million plus self-deportations.
Lastly, you have to consider the downstream impacts on Americans. Record low crime rates and a 20% drop in overdose deaths in one year are tangible effects of immigration policy.
While they still need to get those deportation numbers up, I’m not ready to call it a failure yet.

Flow shut down (accomplished, will only last as long as the GOP is in charge)
H1B slashed (needs significant improvement)
5 million deported or self deported
Mass bulking of ICE workforce, make it more difficult for Dems to cut down on the agency in future years (in progress)
I would also be ok with making a deal with Canada and Europe to take our illegals. We stop pushing for Greenland, maybe some weapons for Ukraine, and they take our hombres and somalis. Along with expedited citizenship for any lefties who hate this country

There’s an established legal process for US immigration.
If you didn’t follow it .. then gtfo

Realistically, 1.5M deportations would be a success.
Now this isn't a good point

You’ll be happy to know that international migration to the U.S. is at
a historic low…

It doesn't matter how big ICE is, the President sets the policy and directions of the agency.

Yes and no. Dems beefed up the department of education and its been a thorn in the side of the GOP for years. POTUS can stop them from enforcing the border, but it would be difficult for them to slim the agency down. So when the GOP takes charge again, it wont require as much rebuilding

800,000 people come north across the southern border daily, legally, at established border crossings. they follow the rules and the cross border trade is helpful to America and Mexico. Success means every person crossing follows the rules.
