Cold Weather Golf Tips

Have a big tournament this weekend, and unfortunately, it's going to be cold. We tee off first thing in the morning (which will probably be adjusted by frost delays), and the temps are going to be in the low-mid 30's at that time here right outside Tampa. The highs on Saturday will get up to the mid 50's and on Sunday the high is 44.
I am a native Floridian and a newish golfer, and I have never played in these kind of temperatures. I already got some thermal underwear, handwarmers, cold weather gloves and a new golf jacket. I also bought some Titleist TruFeel golf balls because I heard the lower compression golf balls are better in the cold.
Anything else I need to do other than enjoy some Irish coffee? I am guessing getting there a little earlier to stretch and warm up is a non-negotiable.

Use hand warmers for your hands and for your golf balls.

Yeah. Hot hands are a must. They make electric ones if you can find them.
If it's a just-for-fun sort of tournament, fireball shots.

I recommend cart mitts or the hand warmer that goes around your waist.
Wear a bottom layer, hoodie or 1/4 zip and then a jacket. Pack a vest in your bag. Plus a beanie.

I've been playing a lot in the mid to low 40's. Thermal leggings and long sleeve thermal compression undershirt, thermal socks, beanie, and a thicker hoodie have been fine for me. I recognize dropping into the 30's is a different animal. Would likely add a vest and cart gloves/hand warmers to that list. I have never been uncomfortable with that game plan.

Does anyone here tweak their ball flight a bit when it's real cold like this? I find that I'm having more success when I keep the ball a good bit lower in this weather, which is probably a combination of the fact that it's also been very windy.

Im typically layering as much as possible.. Thermal undershirt, polo, light hoodie then a heavy hoodie.. pants are compression thermals and thick pants.. super cold rounds ill add a pair of pj pants under my normal pants.. Used to have a lined pair of Khakis from LLBean may order another pair.. Beanie arse well and a scarf for during the cart ride.. handwarmers area must
also a glove for your non glove hand when not hitting

I agree with all of the layering that has been mentioned. One other thing to keep in mind is the wind. If it's windy, you're going to want the outer layer to block the wind.
I'm a big fan of vests for playing golf in colder weather. If it's just cold I have a fleece vest that I will wear as an outer layer. If it's cold and windy I have a Stika vest that I wear to block out the wind.

Warm Socks
Thermal leggings or Fleece Lined pants (or both)
Thermal compression shirt
Polo
Hoodie
Vest
Beanie
Hot Hands
If you can get your hands on a Mr. Heater and propane, it's a huge win.

prepare to have a shite round

Thanks everyone! Already bought some more stuff to get prepared based on the responses.
Unfortunately, this is a bigger money tournament (at least for me). The only good thing is that it's A/B flighted, and I am one of the higher handicaps, so not much is expected from me.
I am hoping that if I can prepare well enough, that might give me a little edge compared to the field. I don't think anyone playing is taking the weather as serious as me

Club up, possibly 2. Expect your 150 yard shot to play about 165, and that's before the wind. Seriously make yourself be long on the approach shot before clubbing down on the next hole.

How serious is the tournament? Intentionally heating golf balls during comp play is illegal and my ruffle some feathers or get you dq'ed. I've seen the latter happen in person.

I’m aware, my post was just in reference to using hand warmers on golf balls.

Keep your head (ears too), hands and feet warm and you'll be ok. I can't play bundled up so if its below 50, I'm not playing and in the 50's with strong winds, I'm out.

Wow good to know.

As with any cold weather situation, keep your heart warm, and it will pump warm blood to the extremities. Extra clothes cause issues for me in 2 basic ways.
1) I don't like a lot of clutter on my arms, so I will layer up with short sleeve products, and put on top of that for arms as needed. A tee shirt, sweater vest, golf shirt makes a heat holding sandwich that works like a bed sheet, blanket, bed spread.
2) Because I want free hand and arm movement, I get things fitted as tight as possible. I use a long sleeve fishing shirt for my arms and an unlined wind breaker on top of that if there is a bitting wind, but I will breakdown to a lined windbreaker if really necessary.
The right head cover is essential, but in most cases I only need a regular cap if I can keep my core warm.

Not that I'm playing in tournaments ever, but how does having a hand warmer in your pocket, the same pocket that you keep your spare ball in, factor into "intentional"

Played in a fund raiser event that was held early spring. You got supporters to pay you by the hole, like .25 cents up to whatever they wanted to donate. Teed off at 8am and there was ice on the greens. Each player had their own cart, so it was hit and roll. Played 5 rounds in the morning, and 5 rounds in the afternoon. It slowly warmed up, but the first couple of hours were brutal. Averaged a round in an hour. Worn out puppy at the end of play and had to work that night.
