Baseball players we are not talking enough about

I could make a case for almost every non-starter on the team as being a sleeper. You don't play for LSU without having immense talent. That being said, I'm just going to mention a few players.
Pitching:
Paz- As a freshman, this guy might have the best physique of all the pitchers. He is mature beyond his years. He could possibly have the biggest arm on the team and might be the most talented pitcher on the roster. He didn't pitch last year because of having TJ surgery and it sometimes takes a while to get the command back. My guess right now is he is going to have a similar impact for us as Casan Evans did last year. We don't know for sure what this year will bring but he could be a high impact pitcher for us.
Noot- Noot progressed a lot during the 2025 season. In the fall of 2024 he wasn't quite there yet, by the end of 2025 he was much improved. He could have went in the draft last year but returned in hopes of breaking into the starting rotation. I'm not a pitching guru but his form seems repeatable. There is plenty of competition but I think he has a real chance at Sunday starter.
Fontenot- He is a fifth year senior who hasn't done a lot yet so it is easy to sleep on him. That being said, he has good size, upper 90's arm and was really good this fall. He will pitch at the back end of innings, where you already have Sheerin and Guidry. So he has competition, and that will probably limit his impact in 2026 but I believe you could see him in some very critical situations.
Catching:
Yamin- Arrambide looks like a star in the making. Serna is a mack truck with really good skills. So it easy to overlook Yamin, but he is good defensively and has hit well in the fall and so far in the spring. As of now, I believe Yamin would be the pitcher backing up Arrambide. Serna is going to play as a freshman because he is too good, has immense power and needs the developmental experience. I'm just not sold yet that Serna is the number 2 catcher on this team as we speak. That will probably change at some point but we don't know when. I don't know how things will work out but Yamin has a chance to play a bigger role that most are anticipating.
Infield:
Dardar- Listening to some interviews with Jay right before the season started made it sound like Reaves was going to get first crack at 2B and that could very well be the case. I'm a big fan of Reaves and wouldn't have an issue with that. The biggest question mark with Reaves is can he constistently make the routine defensive play. Dardar might have some limits on his ceiling but he is a good ball player. He has power, can hit SEC pitching and has been very consistent defensively from what I have seen. There is going to be plenty of rotation at 2B, with Pearson, Simpson, Clauss and Ruckert also in the mix there and we don't know who will be there at the end of the season. It wouldn't surprise me if it were Dardar.
Outfield:
Harden- I love Braun and Patrick has a very high ceiling but I really like what I have seen from Harden so far. Being a JUCO guy, he has had more time to develop than the other two. He is in great shape and had three HR's in the fall. It's going to be hard to unseat anyone in our starting OF but he has enough potential to make an impact this year.

Is anyone compiling stats for preseason scrimmages since they started last week? Would love to see that if so.

Dude has a rocket of an arm behind the plate, from what I have read. I assume you have seen him live, N2daWild. Is that a fair assessment?
Who is going to play first, and who will be our go-to DH? I am assuming Yorke at DH, but if so, will it be Dardar, Pearson, or someone else as the typical DH? Or will there be a vs lefty or righty rotation?
Looking forward to baseball.
ETA: Had a finger fumble, I meant Yorke at 1B.

They absolutely need a bugger portion of the rev share....IMO.

Yorke plays a really good first base so no need to put him at DH.
There are a lot of candidates for DH from both sides of the plate. Based on the fall I would say Harden from the left side, Pearson from the right. Then you have guys like Braun, Serna, Simpson, Reaves or Dardar.

Yamin had two pinpoint throws this past weekend. The bat looks much improved from last year.

Originally Yamin was going to compete at 1B last season until Jared Jones ended up returning
Yamin has made huge strides at C on defense and should get some work along with Arambide behind the plate
Jay can let Serna develop at his own pace

I have concerns about Reaves defensively.
He is still flubbing balls in practice. His bat never made up for the errors last season.
I hope that I am wrong. Jay will make the changes, if necessary. That I'm sure of.

If this remains true, I could see Reaves in more of a DH roll with Dardar and Carraway spending more time 2B. Reaves can hit. His stats don't back it up, but he consistently barreled up the ball last year

A good listen is yesterday's Podcast / Youtube from Musso at the Box. He gets into the transfers and how they did in the scrimmages last week.
Watch it if you want to, it's about 28 minutes. Don't if you don't want to. Not putting the cliff notes. Just giving the information to do so.

I don't see Caraway coming off 3rd
You need elite defense up the middle and 2nd better have elite defense
Reaves and Dardar can fight it out but my guess is the better defensive option will trend towards the top
Simpson might get a look at 2nd before Caraway would

It’s hard to see you in a baseball thread and NOT remember how much of a bitch you were during the regular season last year

Great we can’t even hit a freshman pitcher. Fire Javy.

Besides that fantastic write up

Yamin still strikes out too much to play regularly. Not even ready to pencil him in as the 2nd catcher.

Reaves is athletic and from what I can tell has more range than the other guys competing at second. He's putting in the work, let's see if he gets there.
He is a really good hitter but he doesn't have the biggest bone structure. I've seen him last year and this fall, smash a ball only to get caught at the warning track. This past weekend he put one over the bleachers.
There are six guys competing there and someone will emerge.

Reaves is a butcher on the field. I think Jay will play a lot of platoons at 2b and 3b and dh
