Its obvious that without a tourney appearance he'll be let go at end of season.

In the event we lose to State tomorrow, would that trigger a mid season move?

I don't think they officially fire him but Verge will be taking more calls from coaches' agents. Since it was Lane or bust, I'm not sure if he talked to any in the fall.

We are going to suck with or without him so why not wait until end of season to fire McMuffin?

I dont disagree, but a loss tomorow would look so bad you'd almost have to fire him and go with an interim to save face and show "committment" as an administration

There is very little reason in basketball to fire a coach mid-season. Let it play out.

Basketball and football are different in the sense that an interim in basketball has a tougher time getting more out of teams being a rah rah guy.

I think we’d have to go 8-10 to even have a shot at the tournament. Tall task to ask him to win 7 more games when he’s won only 15 total in over three season. This is still having to play a bunch of SEC teams that will most likely make the tournament (Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, etc.). I suppose the team could catch fire and win the SEC tournament but that seems highly unlikely.

I’m no fan of McMahon but at this point, let him finish out the season. That way you can say thanks for the efforts of the last four years but there’s the door. And you can make a clean break.

It’s frustrating as hell as a fan but I’m telling myself the end is imminent. We just have to hang in there.

Yeah I guess in theory winning the SEC tourney could get you in, so you have to "let him have the full chance".

I would. At that point there would be no point in dragging it out any longer

We'd be 1-7 in SEC play and I think even the biggest McMahon haters wouldn't have expected that. That would be an epic disaster. Just cut him loose and be done with it if we lose this game

My thought is this. He came in gracefully under program uncertainty. The team was given a long leash due to circumstances. You give him a nice fair well at the end of the season now that that time has passed and he’s clearly not working out long term.

State has lost 5 in a row and is on par with SC. There is no way LSU should lose this game.

Somebody needs to start a thread with a listing of all the "Mc" prefixes that have been used on here.

What is the point? The man stepped into a no win situation; let him finish the season.

LSU is and always been a football school, because everyone's attention has been shifted to the upcoming football season the problem has probably been moved way down the priority list, I'd be surprised if he gets canned before the season is over, which won't be too much longer

You don't be nice and "Say Thanks" to 4 years of total dysfunction!

You're almost there, but not quite.

After 3-4 more loses this season, it will be time for McHallman to get the axe and be told to gtfo!

You are correct here.

Which is why he should 100% be fired if we lose this game. This would be a really ugly loss

In theory, you're right. This isn't a good MSU team. In fact, in those 5 loses they have been blown out multiple times. But just as McMahon has inexplicably matched up well vs. Calipari's teams (both at Kentucky and Arkansas) he's inexplicably been horrible against Jans' teams. McMahon is 0-5 vs Miss. St with an average margin of defeat on nearly 17 points per game. And it's not like we are talking about dominant MSU teams. None of the 3 teams that blew out LSU had winning records in conference play.

Frankly, it would be more of a surprise if LSU won this game than it would be if they lost it.

Probably not unless there’s something else going on behind the scenes we’re unaware of.

Be patient. The end is McNear.

You’re not going to want to hear this, but I think McMahon gets another year.
