From “improve the culture and competitiveness” all the way to “make it to and be highly competitive in the playoffs”.
I know a lot of these guys have multiple years of eligibility, but with quality coaching and the amount of $$ you’ve laid out you have no excuse to not make the playoffs (and I’d say minimum make it to the final 8 or even 4).
Biggest risk to the season’s outcome to me is Leavitt. If he doesn’t compete in spring, will the front end of the season incur losses while he gets settled and gels with receivers? Is he as good as ranked / advertised, or did he catch lightening in a bottle on that ASU team a couple of years ago (this past year pre-injury wasn’t stellar)?
Other risk to me is defense. Can these young HS recruit DTs/DEs step up as true freshman and either play well or push the vets to play better?
Great start with recruiting and I’m fully confident in Kiffin offensively and Baker defensively. Now that the roster is set, ca they pull it all together to make a championship run in one year?

It’s pretty wild. But, it seems like the coaching staff is trying to build a go get it now roster. Normal sports fans are having a tough time with the “build your talent roster” versus go buy it. I know I am, but hell let’s go get it.

When is the last time you saw a true freshman DT make a difference? It rarely or never happens

last year, Jakheem Stewart....
look, i agree it' not prevalent, but for the elite, it's absolutely possible, and Brown and Anderson ARE elite

In this age of 7th year and 8th year players, it will be even more difficult
Even Dorsey didn’t have a big impact as a true freshman

Well, anything can happen in today’s NIL world. I certainly expect us to make a run to get into the playoffs and beyond that who knows. Lane will have to merge all these players together and get them to be cohesive and become a team. I guess that is what makes the portal and NIL so interesting. anything can happen in today’s landscape and the days of someone like Alabama dominating the talent landscape are over.

If any freshman can make an impact it would be guys like Lamar Brown and Rich Anderson.

Someone made this exact same thread yesterday actually

Leavitt. If he doesn’t compete in spring

People said the same thing about Anthony “Freak” Johnson

Why am I getting downvoted for this? Is it because I asked about young DTs contributing? Is that it?

Get it NOW as this staff will be difficult to keep in place the following season.

True for me as well. The game is evolving, though, and the portal is here whether we like it or not. It's proven that high school recruiting will not sustain success as long as they can have an exodus of players each year.
Sustainability is key. No, we won't be going to get 60 players each year out of the portal, but I do expect around the 30-35 mark to replace the one-year mercenaries, seniors, and portal losses. I am extremely confident since we have someone who can step in as a proven transfer portal guru and be able to reach the playoffs.
Being able to actually coach and evaluate talent is langniappe. We have a lot to be excited about.
