He couldn’t do any of what Lane is doing right now. CLK was THE best choice.

Lane was built for this cfb landscape, there's no doubt.

Saban could do anything. He didn’t want to do it. He had nothing left to prove.

Saban would have struggled with the portal too because Texas Tech and Miami could outbid Alabama for players.

Everything being equal, I know Saban would be either 1 or 1A

However, when $$$$$ became part of the equation — Lane shines. Saban hates this scenario

Bro Saban was ruthless. In his younger days, he absolutely would be going to work in this system

If Saban wanted to he’d be the best still, by far.

Saban absolutely could’ve, but even he couldn’t have outbid the insane Texas Tech/Oregon money being thrown around

The other issue is that he couldn’t have kept 5 star talent around for 3 years before starting, which was Alabama’s real superpower, getting elite recruits to sit and wait their turn

Saban would still be the best coach in basically any era, but it wouldn’t look like it did in his prime.

Most LSU fans are just now realizing that we have more money behind the program than most of the non-Texas schools in the SEC.

Kiffin could only be doing this because the big money boosters gave him a giant bag to work with.

He'd still get HS kids but they'd transfer for more money these days after a year.

Saban worked money before it was legal. Now that everyone can do it, bama’s advantage is gone and the playing field is leveled.

If Saban wanted to go all in in this NIL transfer portal era, he’d completely dominate it and turn around and beat teams like the 2019 LSU team

Saban could and would have had things changed about a decade earlier. Not only was he an excellent recruiter, but he was also an excellent fundraiser.

Saban was both a great football coach and a great manager because he knew how to hire the smartest people (have you noticed how well his assistants are currently doing) and delegate. I agree his time was before the NIL and portal but if Saban was 42 years old right now he would just hire the best person available to handle all of that and delegate it to them. I still think he’d be winning championships in today’s environment-whether at LSU, Alabama or Indiana.

I've said this for years. The GOAT wasn't really the GOAT, he just had Dodge Chargers and $$ for his recruits, and never had the NCAA up his arse.
