Ole Miss OL Delano Townsend Re-Signs | Withdraws From Portal

If tweet fails to load, click here. Ole Miss couldn’t bear the thought of losing multiple OL to LSU, so they ponied up to keep Townsend.
I still feel very good about LSU landing IOL Devin Harper from Ole Miss.

I just don't see a scenario where all of this doesn't blow up in ole miss face.
You know they're overpaying for these guys because they need to make it seem like the team is still intact and everything is running smoothly. It's all PR for them to make it seem like they're an "elite" program even with the exit of their greatest coach and OC ever.
I imagine they're throwing out offers they won't be able to honor at some point and that's when it's gonna get really ugly and embarrassing for them.
Oh well.

Ole Myth media said he was just testing his market value, so probably not. It’s usually pretty easy to tell the ones who aren’t serious about leaving.

Would have been great, but adding two more guards wouldn’t make much sense. 1 more guard (Harper) and an OT would be nice.

I tend to agree. But it's possible it's going like Notre Dame who motivated their donor base to pony up funds when BK left them to show that LSU doesn't have more "resources" to win a championship. Ole Miss could similarly be using the Kiffin saga to rally the troops. We'll see if it's temporary or lasting

This was a market play, plain and simple.

Curious as to why you think that. Ole Miss has spent a lot of money in the portal the last few years and have 0 complaints so far. Princely Umanmielen liked his deal so much he made his little brother transfer to Ole Miss from Nebraska, who is also spending lots of money. The Grove Collective has some strong leadership.

I think this is a Cold War situation for ole miss. Draw the battle line and they’ll do anything (overpay) to keep someone from crossing over to our side. They have something to prove. We care a lot less.

Really LSU needs 4 more. So two IOL and two Tackle really. We are at 11/12 OL. You need at least 15. You need a 2 deep absolutely. Then you need a third for someone to pop up and also for practice with the defense.
