What’s the latest it’s considered “polite” to show up to a restaurant before close?

An hour?
30min?
10min?
At wha point am I getting spit or “floor spice” on my meal?
Asking my OT brethren who work at the finest of eatery establishments

I think you're good at an hour
at 30 mins you're getting looked at by everyone because you know they're ready to get out of there
10 mins you're definitely getting some spit

Depends on the restaurant and how busy they are... but definitely no later than 30m before closing.

Well, if a restaurant doesn’t want to serve people coming in right before closing, they should close an hour earlier..

An hour for sure. At 30 min they are probably dog cussing you in the back. At 10 min, you are probably getting the Waiting treatment.

Depends on restaurant:
Fast food/fast casual-15 min
Sit down/mid priced-30-45 min
Place where you get reservations-an hr

1) That wouldn't solve people coming in right before close, only shift it an hour.
2) Just because you can technically come in right before closing doesn't mean you aren't a dick for doing so.

People on here bitch about medical workers, but guess what, people try to dye all the time just before shift changes, it happens. Service workers need to quit crying because people come in just before closing.

An hr to 45 mins. If its with that 1 hrs... 45 mins range... Then observe what's going on. If no one else is waiting or going in and its just people finishing up, don't go. Or just talk to the hostess "Before I decide to eat here, I just want to make sure I will not be holding up the staff or have them prepare food of they have already started to clean up". Don't be the assholes who cant "read the room".

It’s sad that we live in a society where patronizing a business during their operating hours is considered impolite and can lead to retaliation from the staff

This is why you should go to Waffle House - they never close!

If I win the lottery I'm going to become a Waffle House franchisee.

Or… ask the owner if he wants to stop making money in the last hour of operation. He might actually want to make money the entire time his restaurant is open.
