How does it work, what are your rules, agreements?

You get paid a base rate for being on call? Or just overtime if you get called out?

I know I know, fry cook problems.

4 hours standby pay for week with a minimum 2 hours every time you are actually called out. Guys who want to work standby for others are able to make a pretty good bit of $.

When I am on call, it's 24/7 for a week. I get paid an extra few hundred bucks for being on call whether I have to do anything or not.

Wouldn't that just be regular pay?

I get an hour a day pay for being either primary on call or backup.
If I have to get up and do work, or drive in, I get paid to the nearest hour

Part of salary. But as a general rule can be taken back as comp time, works out to a few extra 3 day weekends to go fishing.

Low hourly rate from home then OT if I get called in. We do 24hr call. When it’s my weekend it’s Friday at 0600 to Monday at 0600.

When my wife took call she got call pay, its was like 25% of her hourly pay. When she got called out she earned double time for a 2 hr minimum.

I get 25% of my regular pay rate for being on call. If I get called out, it is then OT and double time on Sunday. Minimum 2 hour show up time plus travel even if I'm only there for 15 minutes.
I hate being on call, but I can make some good play money pretty fast.

My brother is an engineer for Exxon and is “on call” during holiday periods. I’ll have to ask him if he gets paid for it; he makes really good money so I’d be surprised if he gets extra pay for it.

Long time ago running casing I had a base salary and then made a day rate. It was 24/7 call but there was a bit of a pattern to the rotation; roughly a week on then a week off. In most cases the jobs were planned so there were not a lot of last minute calls.

As a corp tech manager, I was always on call except when on vacation. So, 24 / 7, the central help desk could call and I'd have to get on the phone, online, rally the troops and fix stuff. Could be 20 mins, could be hours. Sometimes have to drive to the office.

Didn't get paid anything beyond my salary. But I was responsible, regardless.
