Baiting Bust in Woodruff County AR

Anyone know about this? At first there were rumors on some sort of Facebook page (I don’t have Facebook) but apparently more has come out and there is a plane that is seized in Jonesboro. Not sure who it is and not speculating, just know it’s a large farm in Woodruff county accused of flying in rice over their spots. And now the Feds are involved.

So no nets but lots of broadcast feed by air? That federal judge is going to love those violators.

We kind of talked about in an earlier thread. Rumor was it was white oak but I am pretty sure I saw it wasn’t them

They're involved anytime there's a violation of the Migratory Bird Conservation Act. Baiting ducks is a federal rap. Go to the U.S. Magistrates Office when they hold wildlife court if you wish to be amused.

Yes that was the rumor. And WO said it was not them. I’m fairly certain that there is a pending investigation, and we probably won’t find out for several weeks who is responsible. Even then, given the amount of money involved. I would expect them to fight this hard.
Never thought of flying rice in before. Makes sense, seems like it would be much harder to detect (vs corn) unless you caught them in the act.

That's where my place used to be (woodruff cnty). Also home of the Coca Cola club. The family that owns it is big time money out of Memphis.
Whiteoak is in Woodruff as well

That rice just fell out of the sky

I’ve seen this done, but the rice was treated (bright green).

Yea we hunt close to there. Some great area for sure. I think these guys are pretty big time but the Feds are being very hush hush about it and I don’t think anyone really knows.

The only way I can see them fight it is if they weren’t hunting it. Big time “developers” have been known to fly corn on an area for 3 years then start trying to sale it as “best duck spot around”. It worked on a lot of buyers.
It is legal if you don’t hunt within like 1/2 mile or so.
Edit: I have never heard of rice being used that way, but it could have been the cheaper than using corn. Specifically in that area. They probably just save some in the grain bins.
Talking about being harder to detect, I have heard of people using grain sorghum (Milo for some). They said the nets the wardens use wouldn’t catch that small of a seed. I don’t know if that was BS or not. Millet would be even harder to detect, but a lot of pilots don’t like spreading it because the seed gets everywhere and is hard to clean out of the plane.
*This is concerning summer time when the pilots are fertilizing ag crops and I wanted to fly some millet on in some old catfish ponds that were too wet to get a tractor in*

A drone could spread a pile of millet.

Curiosity got the best of me. I went and searched a few Ark FB pages and several people claiming they were dropping rice with drones. Others saying no need to cus they have flooded corn.
They all big mad!!

Only issue is timing if you don’t have one

corn is pretty visible from the air. Brown rice would not be seen.

Made an appearance in 2000. Don’t ever want to do that again lol

There was a Dr. that got busted for shooting way too many ducks. He appeared in court and the judge asked why? He pleaded insanity. The judge said what? The Dr. told the judge that when all those ducks came in, he just lost his mind.

They were dropping it into their timber holes allegedly.

In the holes or the whole block of woods? If it was just the holes why not do it by hand? I figured it was the whole GTR and that was why the plane was needed. How lazy do you have to be to not do it by hand if you were only doing it in the holes?
Reminds me of a guy I know of planting rice in a .25 acre hole and trying to tell people that was why the ducks were coming in like they were. I am sure some of yall have seen the videos

Damn, it is a 1/2 mile from a bait spot you have to be?

Some of the claims I saw were that they were dropping it into spots and others said they were baiting spots that they were not hunting but close to. Not saying they were doing it but drones are a whole new world, drop rice into some holes outside the limit of defined baiting then use drone to buzz that spot and sit and kill them in a rest spot without bait!!!
I’m sure it’s all rumor and speculation because in today’s internet someone would have already posted some charges if they wrote tickets.
