What's the real story here?

In the release attached to the post, the restaurant group cited "increased crime" in the area

Does Loft18's closure in Sawyer Yards signal a larger issue in the neighborhood?

Hmm, maybe Chicken should consider opening a basketball-themed sports bar in that location.

Call it “The Tip Off” because there’s no expectations of tipping the waitstaff.

Keep in mind, it's a very easy out that would cover up the fact that the bar failed.

That area is everything that is bad about Houston

Want to get happy hour at that golf place next to the apartment complex, logistics company, and railroad?

From Loft 18's FB comments:
quote:

"3 physical break-ins within a 2-year period (including having our office door laser-sawed open and our safe stolen). 75+ documented customer car break-ins in the same period. Landlord not doing enough to help... as a tenant/not much else we could do! So yes - crime very much a reason we have lost tons and tons of high ticket corporate clients," replied Loft18's Facebook account to a poster.

Pass my info to the land lord so they can call me to keep replacing all the broken windows from break ins!

Thanks for all the help with the broken windows. Apparently some of these commenters don’t believe us. Lol

Loft18 Houston lol i remember leaving my windows down just so they didnt have to break the window

quote:

"Literally every time I've been to an event there, someone's vehicle was broken in. Laptops and electronics," replied Facebook user Mike Ross.

The restaurant went into further detail about the issues with a "very expensive" security system that the landlord charged for, but didn't actually deter crime since security guards "constantly slept in vehicles."

While the Houston location is on hold for now, the group has not given up its quest for expansion in Texas, as they are currently exploring sites in The Woodlands, Sugar Land and Katy.

Probably better location choices

Which policies specifically led to this?

ETA: Genuinely asking. Not sure why this would be hard to explain with so much conviction.

The service sucked at that place. I was just there a few weeks ago and it was bad.

It is a weird area but I never thought of it as particularly dangerous. Washington especially a little further west is ratchet as frick late at night but that’s not a late night place.

Loft18 was expensive as shite with bad service

Exactly what happened. That bar has some of the worse service in Houston.

Agreed. I don't think of crime as an issue over there. I go to the sim racing place across the street pretty often and never had an issue.

He should open a Men’s Club there instead.

Basketball themed.

“The Personal Fowl”.

Not a Houston baw, but you know the answer to your own question. The reason any MLK Blvd is not safe to drive down.

The idea of going out, having drinks, and hitting a golf ball into a tarp is generally not that appealing. I'm shocked that one of these places in Old Metarie is still operating.

Obviously his rampant TDS.

Or he thinks he’s on the political board.

I love the idea of a simulator bar but when it’s $30-$40 per hour (from what I recall) plus drinks and food the sim better work well and start on time

Also something about swinging indoors fricks with me hard. I'm not a good golfer at all but I look like I've never played before at those sims

I live down the street from this place in Sawyer Heights and crime is not an issue in this area more than any other part of Houston.

The crime is a public excuse for Loft 18 failing.

If only TRUMP could be Mayor we’d still have Loft 18
