Calling the decades of sexual abuse of children by New Orleans-area clergy members "an inexcusable evil," New Orleans Archbishop Gregory Aymond issued a written apology to victims as part of the church's Chapter 11 bankruptcy settlement agreement.

Name the offenders. I don't care if they're on fricking hospice, they need to pay.

This reads as if the apology is only because they were forced to do so. So brave.

I don't think an apology helps much.
I now know of several people who were abused. Didn't find out until recently. One was a high school friend's older brother and another was a friend of a friend. It was kept quiet back then.

a worldwide dismantling and reorganization of the church bureaucracy, to me, is warranted and i say this as a 60 year catholic. i would challenge anyone to dream up a more completely horrific failure for any powerful organization much less a religious one. they have not yet faced the earned consequences for their crimes

It's an organized crime syndicate, absolutely.
Biggest mafia in the world, engaged in fraud for over a millennia and has practiced sexual abuse as a tenet for even longer.
Catholicism is as dangerous as Islam, in it's own way.

But if we were to equally measure the benefit and the harm, there would be far more benefits, although on a deeply personal level im sure those that were affected can never forget it
Bankrupting a church and taking it out of the communities where it served as a ministry doesn't help
They really should have gone after the individuals who committed charging those who committed the crime, and those who covered it up needed to serve to time
The church could have supported them while in prison
That was an error, and its costing the Diocese dearly

With the settlement complete, I’m guessing any day now we will learn that the Pope has officially accepted Aymond’s resignation and the new guy will be fully in charge.

With the depths of the cover up we know the result of dicipline would take them out of the communities it serves. Allegations aren't all old, the abuse is still happening.

quote:well...they tried that and the church (and their enablers) stonewalled. civil action was the only recourse available to the victims

Addresses and photos of all these pedo fricks as a starting point
The church should be totally reformed it is an int’l criminal organization at best.
You dont have to go to church to know your God.

What good would any of that do? You have names and addresses of the pedo priests - then what? YOU commit a crime seeking revenge?
They should be named for sure, but law enforcement is supposed to turn a blind eye to vigilante justice?

This is 99% false and 1% misleading.
The diocese started a very vigorous screening, prevention and training process over 20 years ago. All abuse allegations have been turned over for investigation by the police, even those suspected of being false allegations.
Yes, an individual priest, religious, or Catholic school teacher may yet commit sexual abuse from time to time, like in every institution, but it’s not tolerated and it’s immediately turned over to the police.
I’m not sure what more can be done.

Have a read on how people who report the abuse are treated.
frick the archdiocese. Burn it to the ground. Hopefully someone not destined for hell like aymond can right the ship.
