Are these pro players required to take classes anymore?

I'm wondering if that's even a consideration. Obviously they're not trying to earn a degree if they're jumping from paycheck to bigger paycheck every year. But is coursework still required? And if so, why? They're basically employees.

I’ll put it this way: When is the last time you heard of anyone being academically ineligible?

Dude just shut up. Would you rather the NFL have a developmental league and there was no need for College Football? I get it, you don’t like the fact that these 18 year old make more money than you. There will still be LSU games on Saturdays and I will still show up. You can choose not to…

Cardale Jones, Ohio State QB, said in 2014: “I didn’t come here to play school.” Almost all athletes are taking online classes now. They don’t have to do much in the way of school work.

All I'm saying is let's end the farce that these are "student-athletes." They're employees, paid to play football. It's a joke that there are still requirements that they take courses.

Within the next decade the NCAA will be a relic of the past and everyone will stop pretending the student part of student athlete actually means something.

Schools should end the farce and stop participating in this. Go back to pure amateur student athletes. If someone can gin up some NIL dollars on their own (like Livvy) then that is their right I guess. I don’t think what is happening now is sustainable.

I thought it was a little more eloquent, something like "we ain't come here to play school".

People are stupid for think this is the only thing wrong.
These kids don't have to sign any binding contract.

it would be fine with me if we were like the rest of the world and uni sports were purely amateur club teams for fun and everything else was pro.

I think we're close to college football breaking off to be its own for-profit entity. There used to be at least some football players that care about school. Those stories don't even exist anymore.

quote:WHY NOT BOTH! Establish an NFL development "Semi-Pro" League for the "Non-Academic" types AND continue with NO NIL College Football for those that can actually spell the name of the school they are playing for. I 100% guarantee that there are a few LSU football players that could not correctly spell out "Louisiana State University."

U was told Cam Newton never set foot on Auburn’s campus except to play football/practice. All online courses. I believe that could be the new norm after covid.

We still have kids in all sports at LSU who actually carte about school. A minority of the kids, but there still are some student-athletes.
We desperately need a standard NIL/pay system that does NOT mandate an amount of salary, but establishes parameters of the contract.
IMO, the length of contract should be one year or one complete season INCLUDING any postseason play. No bowl optouts.

You have to be semi retarded to not at least get a general studies degree or pass its required courses.

NIL isn’t the problem. It’s the transfer portal.
1 free transfer limit would regulate it somewhat.
