I've recently started re-reading the complete works of Sherlock Holmes stories. Always did enjoy them.
Has anyone done a quality TV series on them.
As in actually doing the one written by Doyle and set in late 1800-early 1900 time frame, not new stories based on the characters?
if so, where can I find them to stream?

The 1984 series with Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes is great. I think it is streaming on Plex TV.

He might not discover that one with the confusing name.

Don't know of any television series that fit your criteria but the two Guy Ritchie movies were pretty good. I think there's going to be a third.

Its not what you are looking for, but Sherlock Holmes & Daughter(2025) is on HBO Max. Season has 8 episodes 45 minutes each, it was good for what it was. David Thewlis plays Holmes

The modern BBC one with Martin Freeman and Nicholas Cobblepott or whatever his name is was pretty good. Skip the entire last season, though. It goes pretty hard off the rails.

i asked for one that tells the original stories set in the time frame Doyle wrote the.
the Benedict Cumberpatch series is neither of those.

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes from the 80s is decent canon & a very good portrayal of Dr Watson.
Nothing new. It's all modern trash. I also just watch the old ones with Basil Rathbone.

I’m a big Sherlock Holmes guy. Read the books numerous times so I’m slightly snobbish with TV versions of it and not being accurate portrayals.
The 80’s and 90’s BBC version is about as good as an adaption can get. Of ANY book adaption to TV.
Jeremy Brett is legit perfect as Sherlock and Watson is perfect in season two when they change actors.
The majority of the episodes have word for word book lines throughout the episodes.
All the seasons are streaming on BritBox. I think it’s like $8 a month. I cannot recommend this series enough for fans of Sherlock. One of my all time favorite series.

Elementary was ok... 6/10
sherlock is 10/10
both Enola Holmes movies are 8/10
it's dated for me (a 40 YO) but the 80s and 90s BBC ones were fun in my youth.

The mind palace in season 3 was pretty bad too. Season 4 was total garbage.

just watched “The Red Headed League” on Pluto.
this is in line with what i was hoping to find (but don’t have entire set on Pluto).
slight deterrence from the book (Moriarty isn’t mentioned in that story in the book but was behind it on the TV series).
but pretty well done.
thanks for the Rec.

also, that 1980s series, if i had to picture how Holmes would look in real life, that dude is pretty close.
