With the tools he has to recruit his decisions in games are just bad.
He still puts no work into special teams and does not recruit depth in the trenches.
Stupidity allowed TCU back in a game that was over by playing a soft D when only up ten,

The head coach can tell the DC to not call a soft zone only up ten with that much time left. Barely any time off clock and a TD and that is on RILEY.

They gave up a 35 yard OT TD by missing a half dozen tackles on the play. You give Iowas DC that roster and nobody gets 20 on them. Some specimens on that team. D is an abomination.

I’m telling you that it helps that Parker’s defense doesn’t play a soft arse offense every day.
Their entire offense is chuck up 50/50 balls to elite receivers.

Defense. I cannot remember any of his teams playing defense. I still remember Utah brutalizing them in the Pac-12 championship game a few years ago. Run right, run left, run up the middle, run right...6-10 plays later...TD.

That was a legit issue for a solid 15 years, but not anymore. The current AD is by far the best USC has ever had, they are opening a $250M facility, have invested more than anymore else in support staff and GM, and just spent more than the GDP of a small island nation on the recruiting class.
There's no reason a good coach can't succeed now.. This isn't the Pat Haden/Lynn Swann/Mike Garrrett shite show.
Sark and Kiffin, absent their serious personal issues at the time, which were numerous and derailed things more than anything, would be having success at USC.
Riley has no more excuses next year and plays a top 5 schedule. He's dead man walking.

The new CFB model is to “BUY” success. In reality there will be a few this actually works for & MANY failures while gifting out generational wealth…both players & coaches. It’s crazy.
