Bayou Oaks closing driving range for 3 months to prepare for LIV event

The driving range closure will allow for construction activities to take place during optimal growing conditions. Construction is projected to be complete by the end of March, followed by a grow-in period, with an anticipated reopening in late April.
During the closure period, golfers will not be able to access the driving range; however, Bayou Oaks’ South and North Courses will remain open and available for play during this time although the South Course will undergo work on fairways, putting greens and landscaping.
Improvements to the driving range include surface regrading, irrigation and drainage system upgrades, professional practice tees for players, a sand cap, new turf, and target greens. The project will also introduce a new practice area and putting green, adding a new feature and enhanced experience for golfers following completion of the improvements.

So they are removing the 2 story hitting bays that have artificial turf?

Doubtful. Probably referbishing the areas to the left and right for pro and future amateur tournaments. The amount of traffic that goes through that range every day would destroy any grass range within a week.

What they should do, and what many many public ranges do, is have a permanent strip of hitting mat that goes the width of the range. During the week, players hit off the artificial mat. On weekends, you can hit from grass.
I've been to several ranges that get more activity than bayou oaks and they are able to make that system work without the grass areas going to shite.
They just have to put in the effort to properly maintain it and make sure that the grass area being hit from on a certain weekend gets enough time to recover before being hit from again.

Are they really not doing any course reno for the tournament? At this point anything material can’t be done. I truly am I treated to see how low freaking pros go out there . I think there is a very good change multiple 50s are shot

They said they are doing minor course improvements such as more rough and fairway features and upgrade bathrooms.

I believe this press release was in regards to the range renovation only. The email sent out to annual pass holders and lagniappe pass holders mentioned there will be some green and course renovations. They've already started pinching in a bunch of fairways.

It's about on par with other LIV US venues. From the gold tees (which will be further up than the LIV tees) it's over 7300 yards and rated a 74.7.
The LIV indy course is rated 73.3 from the back tees and Bolingbrook in Chicago is rated at 74.3.
They are going to do some work on greens too, per OP.

They are going to burn it down, but the course is much harder from way back.

2.2 million doesn’t go very far for a reno of a golf course. If they’re doing a significant reno and the state is putting up 2.2, LIV is putting up a lot more than 2.2.
