Are your parents pushovers for the grandkids?

I’m sure this is pretty standard across the board, but my question is, were your parents strict and hard on you but total pushovers for your kids? Basically, they went from one end of the spectrum to another?

Isn’t that the default setting?

Grandparents do what grandparents do

My grandkids were jumping from the big chair to the sofa and back. My son walked in and said, “What happened to you two? You’d have beaten my arse if I had done that.”
But you know, fugg it.

frick that. That's brain rot central. You did put parental controls on them within 24 hours, didn't you?
Grandparents are fine to spoil the grandkids within reason, but you're still the primary protector for your kids. My ex MIL wants to make my kids whatever they want for their birthdays? No problem. Get daughter a gift card for makeup, great.
But doing stuff like buying iPads and scooters are safety and brain rot issues. You want to buy stuff like that, it sure as hell shouldn't be a surprise to the parents so appropriate safeguards and training can be prepared before Christmas day.

As someone with a shite load of cousins and who's grandparents were cold, depression era people who were NOT a spoiling type..I love seeing my kid have grandparents that spoil them

I had those too. My first semester in college I went to see the grandparents in Indiana, I got a sweater, a 2lb jar of peanut butter, and a $3 plastic pitcher for iced tea. But they had already won my affection by having a canoe and lawn darts 15 years earlier.
Grandparents cannot override the wishes of the parents. The non creative types go the iPad/phone route to be extravagant. Bring a grandkid that likes to cook to a cooking class, schedule an afternoon at a boutique steakhouse and a movie with them, all good spoiling. The girls will dress up without having to be told, the boys may put on shoes that aren't crocs for the occasion. But the default is to use money in an arms race for many.

Not so much talking about spoiled with stuff but with love.
My grandparents sure as shite didn't "love" me. (I never cared bc my folks did, and I didn't know different)...It is great seeing grandparents love your kids, that is all.

Are your parents pushovers for the grandkids?
The question is about four decades late.
