Still can't believe Brad Davis was a factor into what led us getting Kiffin

The old clip of BK barking at Sloan on the headset came up on my reels.

Made me remember that was one of the clips of bad PR that partly led to Kelly's downfall, as well as the fact that he wanted to get rid of both Sloan and Davis, but Woody wouldn't let him.

Boggles my mind that Woodward got into a $54M pissing contest with BK over firing Brad Davis, who has sucked for the majority of his tenure here.

Don't know why, but I'm glad that he did.

That entire situation was crazy how it unfolded in less than 24 hours after the A&M game.

I don't know enough about it. Seems like there was so much information that came out at once, with some accounts conflicting with others.

I know it's all said and done, and I'm happy about it, but I just find the entire dynamic so interesting.

I've read things that seemed to conflict on this. I believe the things that made the most sense to me about why he was fired are that he refused to fire Sloan and wanted to fire Davis instead, not fire them both.

Your interpretation certainly makes the most sense to me. I thought I was reading it wrong when it first came out, but that’s what Dellenger and a lot of the other guys allegedly in the know were reporting simultaneously.

Just found it odd that would be the hang up.

I don't know anything about BK wanting Davis fired that last day. I believe it though. I heard Dembrock wanted Davis fired after JD5's 1st season. BK and Woodward waffled on it. After JD5's 2nd season, BK was convinced that Davis had to go. Woody said no . This pissed off Dembrock and he left or at least that was the final nail. I heard this from 2 different players parents in North LA. Dembrock basically thought Davis was a fraud and had no business coaching OL.

Pure fiction. Kelly was on the hot seat from the get go this year. It was his “put up or shut up” year. The aTm debacle was the nail in the coffin but the boosters had become skeptical last year. They gave him portal money and he squandered it on the offensive side. They’d seen enough and they already had their sights on Kiffin. Do you think all the stories of Kelly mailing it in or his awful coaching hires could be ignored or that Woodward needed a “spy”.

I thought Denbrock was upset because Woody wanted to make Sloan co-OC

As much as I wanted BK gone, I wanted SW gone too. Glad it all worked out.

That came out the very day Kelly was "fired".

Afterwards, when all the BS about Woodward not having authority to fire Kelly came out, it kind of tracked.

Woody wanted Sloan gone, so Kelly said he would fire Davis too.

I'm glad it's all over, but I still don't buy the line that Kelly was aloof from day 1. That was a hell of a job he did in 2022. 2023 was solid as well, we just didn't have the talent and coaching on defense.
