Planning to make a visit to this restaurant later this week. Are the BBQ shrimp and Gumbo Ya-Ya still the recommended "go-to" items to order?
This also caught my eye:
I'll be going with others, and might want to share for a "surf and turf" meal.

I was there for lunch last Thursday. The Pecan Crusted Trout entree was really good. I also had the Gumbo Yaya which was just ok. It's been better in the past.

I like Gumbo Ya-Ya and crab cakes.

There are a lot of better options than Mr. Bs. I don’t think the food or atmosphere is all that good. If you have to go, stick to the gumbo.

Yes, I agree. However, I have always had a good experience there, and it was my choice. One of my daughters loves BBQ Shrimp, and I thought this would be a good place, while my other daughter doesn't like seafood, but loves Chicken and Sausage Gumbo.

I always order a french cut, double cut Pork Chop over a steak any day, even at a steakhouse. Granted, Mr. B's Bistro is not a steakhouse. What type of chop do they serve?

That is about the most ridiculous comment I have ever heard on TigerDroppings...

Yknow it’s been long enough where I couldn’t tell you what type of chop.
But damn is it good.
Just a great New Orleans restaurant all around.
Enjoy, friend.

Hilarious. Some of the best service at a restaurant that I've ever had was at Mr. B's. And the food? Excellent.

I've never had a bad experience there. Food has always been good along with the service.

Mr. B's is very solid for what it is. Its the kind of place my elderly parents really like, and I really don't mean that as an insult.
They do a good job.

Took a company man from Des Moines there one time. He got the BBQ shrimp and struggled to eat them with a knife and fork. I pointed to ALL of the people using their hands to eat them so he did that for about 2 shrimp and once he had a little extra room in the bowl, he went back to the knife and fork method. I know cool story bro.
Side note, I've never had a bad meal there. It has been a while since I went there but I have always enjoyed it.
Chicken & sausage gumbo for starter and pasta jambalaya for the entree were my go to meal there.

lol
It’s hard for the “flyovers” sometimes to acclimate to coastal customs. They usually mean well.
Incidentally, ate at a crazy cool old school pizza place in Des Moines last week called Fong’s Pizza. The do a crab Rangoon pizza that - shockingly - is delicious.
So go Iowa, I guess.

C'mon man. Gumbo is probably the weak link on the menu and its not bad. Its just not home made.
Everything on that menu is pretty good including the shrimp.
If I had a complaint it would be they seem to have added some tables which you dont notice with a group but if its just two its a little cozy.

Yeah they tried to give me a bib a week or two ago, I said no thanks I know how to do this.

Yes.
Can't go wrong there.

I visited Iowa this past summer. Everyone is obese there. I though Louisiana had a monopoly on that.
