This morning I drove into town to pick up breakfast. Driving along I noticed a man walking along the street and for him it was quite a struggle. He had severe physical abnormalities and was using one of those walkers with wheels. I picked up my breakfast from the drive through at the restaurant and headed back home. When I did I noticed that the poor soul was still walking so I stopped and offered him a ride which he accepted with a nod.

I learned that the man had not just serious physical issues but literally could not talk, just grunt. But he motioned with his hands and I took him to a house and got him to the back door. No one was at home. At this point I was asking myself what I had gotten into and how was I going to get out?

So I got him back into my vehicle and drove to the police station. I left him in the parking lot and went inside. I told the receptionist what was going on. She told me that his caregiver and an officer were out looking for him. Well, I had picked him up on a very busy street so I don't really know why they could not find him.

I went back out to the parking lot and waited for them to arrive. When they did I did not know them, but the lady knew me and called me by my name. How she knew me I do not know. It has been years since my picture was on the bulletin board at the post office.

We got the gent into her car so she could take him home. It felt good to be able to help someone in need and maybe it will buy me a year or two out of purgatory.

I was expecting you to say you had sex with him, and then he stole your bicycle.

Matthew 6 1-4

“ Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you

OP blew no trumpets. He only started a thread anonymously. Its a good story. A good example of kindness.

but he did humble brag about having his photo on the bulletin board at the post office.

Once you have to tell everyone, it's now just a deed that you wanted a pat on the back for.

Pretty sure the receptionist radioed them and said “there’s a Mr. Missouri Waltz here with the guy you’re looking for.”

I had a good friend who saw an old classmate, Kelvin, walking down the highway and stopped and gave him a ride to the community college in Hot Springs. It was a good deed until Kelvin went in and shot and killed his instructor and a student then abducted a female classmate who wound up unharmed. This happened in 1982.

Kelvin was a good dude in high school but I guess he just went off his rocker that day. You never know.

I thought you were gonna say this guy provided a distraction while dirty Mike and the boys used your car for a “soup kitchen”.
